Why do people with DA dogs think it's ok to let them run freely through a field.... This has happened at least 5 other times but today Zoey and I were walking our normal route which we go through everyday which passes through a schoolyard. We're walking and we see these two jack russels chasing a ball around a corner off leash.. oh great so Zoey and I go walk away in a different route then normal.... low and behold yap yap yap yap yap yap right behind us so I turn around and they are right there growling and snapping. At this point Zoey is in a sit showing no signs of aggression. That's when one of the dog goes for zoeys leg, I counter it with a light kick to the body... then the other one decides to growl and try and strike, that's when i kick it in the face a little harder then the other one. That was enough for their owner to rile them up but WTF this is the second time the SAME STUPID JR's were off leash and tried to attack my dog.
I've been putting in some serious work with Zoey and her being dog reactive and she's been progressing fabulously but when we have instances like this, it can only set us back. I almost snapped and went off on the owner but since i kicked both of his dogs, I held back since I let some frustration out there. My neighborhood is FULL of these little yappy ankle biters that seem to always be off leash. Why... why must people think there 2x20lb JR is ok off leash? the funny part is, the owner threw the ball our way and the whole time the JR's where chasing it they were attacking each other.... oh ok...

You've been attacked for the 2nd time by the same dogs? Why have you not reported this to AC?
I would have snapped and went off on the owner. Why should you have to work on fixing your dog because their dogs are attacking? What will happen when Zoey snaps and kills one of them? I would have come unglued at the owner.

I so hear you on this. I have gotten to the point to where I will load the dogs in the car and head for the park to walk the trails. We have so many dogs that are loose and that are chained to a cinder block...like a large mutt dog can't move a cinder block! My female Dogo Argentino defended by holding down one dog while I ran of the other one off. When I got to her I told her let loose and she let go. The dog just laid there as we walked away. I just will never understand why some people get dogs!!??

Good job Zoey, for not reacting to those little dogs!
![]() That happened to me yesterday only this girl dropped her leash by accident. The little dog was charging toward Kono and I made her sit until the little girl got her dog under control. I would of kicked the dog if I had to. She growled at the little dog but that was only because the little dog was yapping and growling and just all over the place. Plus I dont meet other dogs to often so I only get a few times to teach Kono what do act like with other dogs. Shes getting better though C: The mother didn't even do anything. She just keep walking not even running to get the dog, at least she said sorry for the trouble but it didn't sound very sincerer. I dont know why they would only them off lead unless they knew that their dogs would ignore all other dogs 100% of the time, not try to attack or even play. If those were my dogs I would of bought a long lead and taught them. Its sad how small dogs can get away with being aggressive to other dogs but then big dogs are dangerous even if they are attacked :/ Next time you should go off on that owner. I would make a whole seen too. Threaten to get AC involved too. That would make them get their dogs under control.

Aw, that really sucks for you guys
It's hard enough when your dog is reactive, then you get two stupid animals harassing her as she's finally progressing? Ugh. How frustrating... Good for you for defending your dog. I just don't know what posesses people to NOT use their common sense. I see it way too often. I take it this is a public area?

Same thing happens a lot here. I loved walking down to a near-by park in the evening, but there were too many off leash dogs. I have worked for years on my dog's reactivity and having off leash dogs rush up on him, hackles up and stiff-legged, can be a set back to all that work.
And if one more clueless owner came running up behind their growling, posturing dog and told me that everything was okay, because their dog JUST WANTS TO MAKE FRIENDS, I was going to lose all semblance of self control. So I no longer walk my dog in my own neighborhood. We go to the Boise River Greenbelt (there are virtually no off leash dogs on the portion I walk) or to the open range where he can run until he drops and never see another domestic animal. It is frustrating when other dog owners can't seem to pull their heads out of the bottoms. It makes it so much more difficult for the rest of us. Sheilah |

If this is the second time this has happened and you have a reactive dog, I would definitely call AC, if only to get this on record! My fear would be that it will happen again and your dog will injure or kill one of the JRTs, and the owner will try to hold you responsible for it. It's not like AC is going to swoop in and seize the dogs for an issue like this or anything (or probably even investigate it), but having paperwork on file might help if the worst does happen.
Sorry you're having to deal with this. I moved to a pretty upscale neighborhood in the city recently and there are like no loose dogs here (except the occasional obvious escapee who is quickly rounded up) and it is amazing how much less stressful I find walking my dogs here compared to my previous rural neighborhood where loose dogs were the norm.

The only reason why i didnt go off because it was the owners son with the dogs and not himself..... I wanted to but ill give them each 1 free pass since he was intimidated by me already. I wont be living in this area for to much longer so Id rather not go through the headaches.
