Dandruff in puppies

I wasn't sure where to post this message.

I have a 4 month and a 5 month GSD and was wondering what would be the best way to control dandruff? Neither of them had any dry skin issues but the last week has been in the teens, even during the day, and they do a lot of outdoor learning/playtime and now I have noticed both have dandruff. I do comb them both twice a day, but I almost feel like that is making it worse, or at least bringing it up to the surface. Thanks for any suggestions.

I would recommend fish oil daily. I use the Grizzley Salmon Oil-pump bottle. But you can give the same fish oil to your dogs that you would take for yourself.

We use a humidifier in the winter months, the house gets really dry. It helps all of us. Just make sure you clean the unit often and replace the filter.

I personally think you are over grooming.

What shampoo do you use when you bath them?

I have only given the puppies 2 baths (when we first got them in November and again in December when we had a mud poodle play time). I used an oatmeal shampoo when I have shampooed them. When I say I comb them twice a day, it's more a 5 - 8 strokes over them each time (my Calypso gets matted behind her ears when she plays with Bear because her fur is long and fluffy behind them).

I think I'll definitely try the fish oil, do you put that over their food once a day? Thanks for the advice.

We have same problem in winter. Humider and fish oil everyday helps.

Yes, I add directly to the food:)

i think you should try to control dandruff from the
inside out.
