Pet Insurance Recommendations

Hello! I'm bringing home my puppy on Tuesday, so naturally I want to have pet insurance handled as soon as possible.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which companies and which plans are best. I'm doing my own research of course, but it's a little overwhelming. There are a lot, and it's hard to spot the gotchas as a first time pet owner.

seems a few people were very pleased with pet plan. from what i have read on this forum you have to read the fine print for exclusions. congrats on your new pup.

I have insurance for our Maggie, and had to have an X ray done on her front leg to determine why she was limping..........long story short......the Vet bill was over $400 and a few weeks later I received a check from our insurance company for just over $300.

I would recommend you discuss your options with your Vet and see what he or she recommends, as I did.....might say I am totally happy with my choice.

If you send me a personal message I will gladly pass on my insurance plan information.

I would say with a puppy one of the plans, like pet plan and trupanion that do not exclude genetic conditions may cost you a little more but will give you more coverage if you do have a genetic issue. The list of exclusions is staggering with some of the plans.

We have VPI. It's great. We use it for Finn and our cats and it helped us when the cat got an infection after her spay. 500$ for her treatment, we got a check for 400$ barely 10 days later.

VPI is not great, only great if you do not experience what they do not cover, which is way to much.

Also your vet has nothing to do with pet insurance, they know about as much on this topic as they do food. You lay out the money and get reimbursed your vet could care less. He gets paid by you.

Any thoughts on Embrace? They seem good to me, of course you read lots of positive reviews and also some negative reviews, wish you knew what to make of the mixed reviews. . .

They have a spot on their website that compares plans, petplan being one. . .
