What to do when I am not home?
Hey guys, I need some help figuring this out. My Schatzi is an inside dog. She sleeps on my bed, she chills with me on the couch, she has the freedom inside the house. As long as I am inside the house she will be there. However, when I go for a night out she will not go inside the house. I feel bad sometimes because it gets cold. She has a dog house outside, but never goes in either. I tried getting her used to it but she rather not be in there. :(
I am trying to find out how can I make it more comfortable for her when ever I go out. Any suggestions? |
Get her a crate for inside the house and train her to go in there.

Yes, a crate!

I forgot to mention that. She has a crate inside the house and she will go in when I am home. But when I am not she will not step foot inside the house. |
Since you are in Los Angeles, it's not like she's at risk of exposure outside when you are away for a few hours. It rarely gets below 40 at night there, even in the middle of winter --and it's often considerably warmer (the average low in Dec./Jan is 49!).
Still, if you want her to go in the dog house when you aren't home, get her to go in when you are home. Acclimate her to it like a crate -- reward and praise when she goes in. Also, try place her food bowl inside it for a few weeks and let her eat inside it, with you standing nearby, so she gets used to thinking of it as her space. |
how about leaving the tv or a radio on in the house??
