So I've entered into a mountain bike race on the 18th of January and will probably be racing pretty heavily this year. This upcoming race is in Phoenix and the weather will be in to 60's to 70's. I'll be camping out Friday-Saturday. My options are:
Take him with, leave him in the car during the race, which will probably last 1 to 2 hours, tie out when I'm around. Crate him during the race in a shady spot: my concern with this is that he will bark at other dogs (if there are any) and be a nuisance. Leave him at home and have someone periodically let him outside to do his business/feed him. If he wasn't so reactive this wouldn't be as much of a problem as it is. So what would you do? I'm leaning towards leaving him at home, but I don't want to be a burden on my friends and have to rely on them whenever I have a race. |

>>>> have a friend take care of him at their place.
>>>> find a kennel near where you're racing him and board him. >>>> find a kennel near your home. >>>> have someone come to your house to let him out and feed him. i wouldn't leave my dog in my car while i raced, safety concerns. i wouldn't crate my dog while i raced, security concerns. if my dog was reactive i wouldn't take him somewhere were he may encounter other animals.

Do not leave him in the car in 60-70 degrees. Either take someone with you that can watch him or leave him at home and have a sitter come in to check on him or find a kennel near your house that can keep him for the weekend.

Yeah go the Kennel
If you take him with you you'll constantly worry about him and it will be really distracting for you - you can just focus on your race when you know he's safe at your trainers place

Kennel him for the night or have someone stop by the let him in and out.
60 - 70 will not be 60 - 70 in the car, it will get much hotter, especially if the shade shifts and he's in sun. Crating is a terrible idea as well. People may poke their fingers at him to try to pet or bother him. And you didn't mention it, but camping out - don't leave him in the tent either, They can get wicked hot during the day, even in the shade. |
