How much to pay dog sitter?

My family & I are going to Utah January 16 - 21 for my brother's wedding, we were originally planning on boarding Casey somewhere, but we decided to get my friend who knows Casey well to take care of him during that time. She will be living at the house, and taking care of him, my guinea pig, and feeding my fish. I'm not really sure how much to pay her. I can't ask her how much she wants because she already told me not to pay her, but I want to anyway. I've never had anyone stay with him so I have no idea how much. Any ideas?

Since she is a friend how about getting her a nice gift. Does she have a hobby of any sort or maybe need something for her home?

I've done lots of dog sitting for my friends and I always tell them I don't want anything but they give it anyway. For 1 dog for a week I got $100.00 and for 2 dogs for 5 days I got $160.00, well my son did because that was the deal on our end(he helped quite a bit). I would have been happy with a gift card or something along those lines. If its someone you trust and feel comfortable with then its up to you on what you want to do...its not easy finding someone that is trustworthy.

I've done a lot of dog sitting, and the pay varied depending on how much responsibility I was given. Usually it is $10-$20 a day. I've never asked for a specific amount. I've even been given $300(WAY TOO MUCH) for 4 days, because the dog was practically their child, 15 yr old, and partially deaf. Gift cards are good if its a friend and you know what they like to do or where they like to eat.

Back home I watched my neighbor's two Cairn terriers once for a long weekend (they had a last minute emergency and couldn't board) I wasn't expecting anything but they paid me $60 and big box of chocolate the chocolate was the best part! Mmmmm

Anywhere from $15-25 a day is the norm around where I live.

BUT, since she's a friend, and has said she doesn't want anything, I would go the gift route instead - much harder to give back a gift than money LOL

Enjoy your trip!

I wouldn't do a gift unless you know what she REALLY wants, because she's stuck with it unless you include a gift receipt. I would either do a general purpose gift card (like a VISA gift card, or amazon if she shops on amazon that you know of). Or cash.

I would think $20 a day would be a good amount for that. I assume you're leaving her plently of food, drinks, etc?

Age also factors into this! If she's a 20 yr old friend living at home, this may be a little vacation for her. If she's an adult and has her own stuff going on at her house that she'll have to go back and forth to take care of, it's a lot more work.

If she doesn't have to drive an extra amount per day -if she has a car - to get to work, or home to care for her own responsibilities, or buy extra food and whatnot to get by living at your house, I'd pay $10 ish a day, if she does have extra expenses from this I've cover them on top of it.

Before I had my own to really take care of, I LOVED staying at others' houses to care for the animals, free food! lol

But honestly, pay what you think peace of mind and your animals safety is worth after you get back and check everything out.

I pay my sister $50 for a weekend. She's not required to stay over as long as she lets the dogs out 3-4 times a day. Although I didn't pay her last time because she lost my house key!
