Two dogs is the limit in my county, and I'm fine with that for myself. I doubt I'd have the money to properly care for two dogs, or the time to give them all the attention they need. I would love to foster, but Sam would not be a good dog to have around fosters.

What keeps me from getting more? Just the thought of feeding another, having to cut the nails and clean the ears of another, another to groom. Oh heck no!
We have our hands full with the 9 thank you very much.

I would love to have one more dog. I would definitely get an older one. I really miss my lab since he died, and I loved having an older dog in the house. What stops me right now is that I am planning to sell my house and I am not sure where my daughter, Ruki and I will end up.

I would get another GSD in an instant but I'm not quite over Pyate yet. When I am, there will be another dog in the family to keep Raina company and to help me when Raina crosses the bridge (not for a long time). We don't have a lot of space but if I did I would have at least 3-5 dogs. Actually really can't afford that much food either but it would be a nice dream.

My age
I've had up to 7 GSDs at one time, but have been down sizing my canine family as I've gotten older. When I'm down to two (I currently have three) I'll decide if I want to be a one or two dog family when something happens to the 2nd one. My youngest will be 5 on the 20th and if something happens to me she'll go back to her breeder and any dog I get in the future will also have to have that guarantee that the breeder will take him back and either keep him or find him a good home. FWIW my oldest who's 10 would also go back to his breeder if something should happen, BUT I'm stuck with what to do with 7 year old Bruiser since his breeder was a bold faced liar, she also defrauded me and I wouldn't let her have a dead rat.

Space. Time. Money. Individual Personalities.
Have 3 permanent; and I foster or offering boarding occasionally. Jonah was going to be our permanent 4th which meant a break from fostering. Holly is fear aggressive and Raven is picky so no females get mixed in with the current pack and only very calm balanced males are introduced to the girls otherwise it's crate and rotate. Our lives are very busy and so it's not fair to anyone for us to take on more permanent dogs.

I have three. I am actively training one, and the other 2 are getting neglected.
Things that stop me. -Mud and dog hair in the house, -Cost (I tend to spend too much on my dogs $7,000 this year) -time for individual attention. -logistics when traveling. It's much easier to handle 1 or 2 dogs in a hotel room than 3 dogs. ![]() If I had a lot of money and didn't work, I might add more.

For me it is mostly sanity. BF isn't huge into dogs, so I have to the majority of the work; no help... and keep the dogs sane inside to keep him calm. haha. I don't have a lot of money right now, either... and my pack dynamics are FINALLY calming and settling since having all of the fosters + a new puppy.
We're going to wait a few months before we foster again... and we're not going to have three permanently or four until we get a bigger house or don't have a roommate.
