Default Moving/pcs to Germany!!! :-) advice needed

We found out about a week ago that we will pcs to Germany (Ansbach) in the spring! We are so excited but are completely nervous!

1-we feed earthborn holistic now which is an American brand of kibble that they don't sell in Europe (that i know of) so what kibbles at high quality available there! :-)

2-need to know where we should look for a house. We have 2 dogs and a kitty so we want them to be happy! :-) with pretty parks nearby to play!

Thanks for any advice :-)

First, you're going to LOVE Germany!

Second, you should have a sponsor?
Most military families get a sponsor and they will help you with your needs.
You may be able to find out who it is and contact them early on.

Enjoy every minute of it!

Love the photos of the dogs too

Kat

We did 2 tours in Germany, and loved it there.
Some of this *may* have changed, but these were the rules when we travelled...

Be sure - for the pets - that their shots are all up to date. Shots should be 30 days or older from when you travel, so don't leave them to the last minute. You'll also need a health certificate from your vet within 10 days of travelling.

I usually ordered kibble from petfooddirect.com. It took a while to make it to us in Germany, but we got free shipping so the prices weren't bad. Otherwise, food choices (at least back then) were very limited. At the Px, all they carried were foods like Iams, Pedigree, etc. And at the German stores, good foods were few and far between and were VERY expensive.

We came back about 5 years ago so a lot has probably changed, but we loved it there.

We did two tours in Germany. Beautiful country and very nice people! PM Mrs K. I believe she's in Germany (and may be a German national).

Mrs. K is from Germany, but is currently in the US if I remember correctly.

No words of wisdom here, but you are sooo lucky! Congrats!

So they ship to Germany? If that is the case i can keep my pups on the food they have now! <3 that would be ideal. Im sure we will have a sponsor but our orders are not in yet. May be February before we have orders. All of my animals are up to date on shots so thats not an issue. :-) they can't wait to see snow though!

At the time, they shipped to APO's so assuming they still do, you should be able to get your food.

A lot of places will ship to APO's, it's via USPS and you have to fill out customs forms, but they don't charge you an arm and a leg for international shipping. Pretend you're going to order some food and see if, in the "State" box for shipping, AE is still an option. If so, you should be fine. Whenever you go to order the food, search for free shipping coupons or join their e-mail list, they'll send you codes for free shipping or discounts.

We never had sponsors, but had smooth trips back and forth. All except the last time we came home, which was a mess.

You will love Germany. I did tours as both a dependent and a service member. You are near some really great sight-seeing areas. And being centrally located in the southern half there is more to see and do than you can imagine.

Get out and meet the locals and become part of the community if you live on the economy. If you live on base you'll have to work at it a little harder.

You're going to be in a gorgeous area I hope you enjoy it - it's great that you can take all your animals with you too!

I was 9 years old when my dad was sent to Belguim. We lived there for 4 years and travelled extensively.

You will love Germany, and Europe in general ... mind you it's been a VERY VERY long time (over 20 years) since I've been back, but I still have fond memories!

Make sure you find someone over there to look after your small zoo because you HAVE to do some travelling while you are there!
