Dumbbell - Hold
 

Deb Z. started us on it a couple of months back. While she's super prey driven, she didn't want to take the "stick" on "my" terms because that "wasn't fun". So she showed me how to shape her into taking it, however I wasn't exactly sure how to go from there. I only knew what I've seen from my parents and then ordered a couple of DVD's on the Apport i.e Ivan Balabanov etc. and I watched "Anleeren" youtube video over and over and over again.

Still not quite sure if what I'm doing is right, but it seems to work. She's holding. :D

I start the hold with me seated, and using food to keep the dog calmer and keep the hold calmer. I start using prey drive once the hold is well understood. Looks fine to me though!

Have you seen Lou Jollyman's video series on training the clicker retrieve? SUPER! (IMO).

I have not watched that one yet. I will definitely look into it though. I build it up via the clicker but I have trouble handling the dumbbell and the clicker at the same time so I'm using the voice to mark instead.

It is a series of videos. (I think she is doing the same thing now with a series for tracking articles.)
I never handled the DB, pretty much strictly freeshaped. So only worked the clicker.
The problem comes when I <click> and he drops the darn thing on my toe, or his toe. Gotta work on catching it:).

Looking back.... I probably should have been holding the DB.
