I'm looking at rescuing a playmate for Duke. I want something smaller than he is and have been looking at breeds. Any ideas what wouldn't work? They would both be outside when I'm at work, inside when I'm home and should be good around children. Looking at Border Collies, Jack Russels, open to anything that will play ball and/or frisbee.

Just wanted to add, Duke gets along well with people and dog. He's VERY well socialized, from large crowds (getting mobbed by 10+kids at once during the Alabama Jubilee) to shopping at Academy Sports, Home Depot, etc.

I agree that as long at they get along, any breed will do. Heck you can just go to the shelter with your dog and start testing the available dogs out to see how well they get along.
