Default Anyone Notice A Rash Of GSD Ads Lately?

I don't know if it's just in my area, but I've noticed what seems to be a rash of GSD ads in newpapers,CL,and of course for us calls from owners who want to surrender. Has anyone else noticed this? We have 13 GSD at the city shelter now,all from different owners.

Not in this area... I always keep an eye out for them, cause I will do anything I can to help them. I haven't seen a GSD in the shelter here in the last year. I'm most likely picking one up 2moro 350 miles from here though, because I troll ads when I travel as well. I don't think there are many in this section of the country...from SW KS, now to NE KS...I always watch. I'd be in deep if I lived somewhere there were lots... LOL!

Yes and 98% of the ones in my area are females. It seems like males are just not given up like females

Yes, I noticed it too. It's crazy how many GSD's are put up on craigslist and ebay classifieds. Almost like it's PCS season or something like that.

That's strange, I was just thinking a couple days ago every GSD on craigslist is male around here. I must be in GSD twilight zone... LOL!

Maybe its because they are bitchy lol.... not really all that funny to be honest. You are right though. There have been a LOT of females lately. I really dont know why though.

I don't really look at ads but my friend who does GSD rescue has been having dogs shipped here from shelters in CA. They are getting adopted as fast as the money is raised to get them here.

I personally dont understand that but it does have some merit. I was talking to some people at petco (we adopted 2 guine pigs for my daughter- they were owner surrendered) and he told me that they will really increase in the adoptions till January. Apparently nothing says happy birthday Jesus like turning out the pet you promised to love and care for, go figure.

Around here it's not likely to be Christmas but the fact that it can go from 80/90 degrees to 30s or below almost overnight. In the summer my gas bill is like $20 and in the winter it's like $150 and that's with the heat OFF all night and way down (55) during the day. People with low incomes or losing their jobs might not be able to afford pets during the winter if they are trying to keep their families from not freezing.
