Default What age for a CGC

I'm not sure where this fit. I was just wondering what age can your dog go for a CGC? Thanks

AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program

"There is no age limit for the CGC test. A dog is never too old to be a good citizen. Puppies who have completed all immunizations and boosters may be tested, however, because we know that behavior and temperament can change over time, when puppies pass the CGC test, owners should have them re-tested as adults."

Your dog can it's CGC at any age. If your dog is a puppy you need to wait until it has had all of its inoculations before you join a class. Other than that, they are never too old to learn.

I have found that most puppies aren't ready for the CGC though we had one just manage to pass at 5.5 months. I recommended that she redo the test after her pup was an adult. Most of the dogs that come to our class and run through my tests are over a year.

Thank you for the input. My puppy will be 5 months next week so I am looking into things I "can" do now.

If you want to do something now you could do the STAR Puppy evaluation:
Welcome to the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program!

Hmm, that is a thought. I am currently active in my local schutzhund club. So we are doing something. I just thought that a CGC would also be good to have.
