Did you grow up with dogs?
I had 2 Sheltie Mixes recently, and currently own 2 GSDs. Most of my family had Labs, Lab mixes,a couple Great Danes.

How many different breeds have you owned?
2: Sheltie Mixes and now 2 GSDs.

What training (rally, sch, agility, etc) have you done with your past and current dogs?
Basic obiedience training.Nothing special.

Do you work with animals, are you a behaviorist, a vet, a vet tech, agility trainer, etc?
I volunteer for 2 animal welfare organizations: 1 shelter and 1 rescue. Both are all breeds, so I come in contact with different purebreds, and mixes of all sorts.

Have you dealt with aggression?
Simba my previous female Sheltie Mix got into a scuffle with my cousin's female Lab Mix. I have had dogs of different breeds charge me and my dogs. I haven't experienced anyhting extreme or very scary yet.

Did you grow up with dogs?

No. My mother did not like dogs (she loves them now). We had a couple here and there, but they never were around for long. I had cats and horses. Got my first dog when I was 19.

How many different breeds have you owned?

Several mixes, black labs, Doberman and a lot of GSD.

What training (rally, SchH, agility, etc) have you done with your past and current dogs?

AKC obedience, AKC tracking, SchH, dabbled in agility, PP, SchH style tracking, and real life herding (cattle)

Do you work with animals, are you a behaviorist, a vet, a vet tech, agility trainer, etc?

I have worked with animals pretty much since I was 13. Horses, cattle, hogs, sheep, rabbits and dogs. I help teach KPT classes, have done private instruction in obedience, I am a CGC evaluator, board dogs, train/compete/breed GSD, groomed horses, trained horses, raised horses, showed horses, bred and raised rabbits for show and meat, raised broiler chickens/turkeys, have laying hens, raised hogs and sheep, ran a natural cow/calf/feed cattle operation.......

Have you dealt with aggression?

Yes, both that based on fear and that based on what a GSD should be.

Did you grow up with dogs?
Yes.... my parents got me a cocker mix when I was very little because they thought that would stop me from petting all the neighborhood dogs (and getting bit), however, it did not. I loved my dog but still loved all the dogs I came in contact with.

How many different breeds have you owned?
I have owned a rescued terrier mix, an Airedale, a Doberman, 2 Labs, and 3 German Shepherds. My favorite breed is the German Shepherd!

What training (rally, sch, agility, etc) have you done with your past and current dogs?
A tiny bit of herding, Schutzhund, tracking, obedience, and agility.

Do you work with animals, are you a behaviorist, a vet, a vet tech, agility trainer, etc?
I was a vet tech at the Michigan State Vet School and some small clinics. I also did dog grooming. I was also lucky to work with a trainer who had the Detroit Metro bomb dog and trained the local Sheriff department dogs (a long time ago). Growing up I had a horse that I worked with a trainer in order to compete in hunter/jumper as well as dressage and cross-country events.

Have you dealt with aggression?
Yep. Dog aggression not people aggression.

This thread will help get to know each other better and we will know who to ask questions about medical problems or behavior problems.
--> I could not have dogs in my home because my brother was allergic. I helped raise my aunt's Pomeranian and JRT mix.

---> German Shepherds, but I have worked with more breeds and mixes than I can count.

----> Schutzhund, Obedience, Behavioural Modification.

-----> I am a certified Animal Care technician. I have four years experience as a dog trainer at the Humane Society, helping create balanced pets out of unstable shelter dogs. I worked for over a year in an Animal Hospital, have been studying RAW for almost a year and natural canine diets/nutrition for over 4 years. I have worked in a dog boarding facility for over a year where I studied canine social behaviour and socialized 5-8 dogs in large groups for four hours, four days a week. I did field placements in Animal medical centers and the Humane Society as an Animal Care Attendant.

------> More times than I can count during my years at my local Humane Society and my time at an animal hospital.

Did you grow up with dogs?
Yes, but not of my own. unless you count the dalmatian the boyfriend of my mother gave me to earn my love who my mother dispatched along with said boyfriend some months later. I did care and trained several stray dogs that, even when my mom didn't allow me to own dog, chose my house as theirs and slept by my door.

How many different breeds have you owned?
mostly mutts. A border collie and Diabla and Akela are the only registered dogs I've had.

What training (rally, sch, agility, etc) have you done with your past and current dogs?
I worked for a dog training facility that also rented "trained" dogs for security.
I've been doing SAR for 9 years, with 3 dogs that had reached operational level. With the BC I did SAR, Agility and worked on several TV shows and commercials for TV, we even got a contract for a TV show and worked as part of the permanent staff for about 8 months.
Diabla is SchH-A and IRO certified (SAR) We also participate in dog events with an obedience and tricks show at least once a year.

Do you work with animals, are you a behaviorist, a vet, a vet tech, agility trainer, etc?
I am a vet tech (3 years of study) and I'm in Vet School. I worked in a Zoo, so at one moment or another I've worked with a loooot of different species, from cattle to panthers. With dogs I've worked as a pet trainer for the last 10 years. Now I have my own small facility and also do training in internship and boarding. If I have no dogs in hotel or for training I may foster rescues.

Have you dealt with aggression?
Yes. From the ankle biters to doing suit work with the Rottweilers that protect the jails

Did you grow up with dogs?
Yes. My first dog was when I was 6, I believe.

How many different breeds have you owned?
I have owned...
a German Shepherd x Chow
a Shepherd mix
a Border Collie x Australian Shepherd
a German Shepherd x Shetland Sheepdog
a German Shepherd x Alaskan Malamute

4/5 were german shepherds, as you can see.

What training (rally, sch, agility, etc) have you done with your past and current dogs?
Basic Obedience. I hope to go into Agility, and -maybe- schutzhund later in life.

Do you work with animals, are you a behaviorist, a vet, a vet tech, agility trainer, etc?
Not yet. Hopefully soon.

Have you dealt with aggression?
Sadly, yes. My current adult dog, Crystal, suffers from extreme fear aggression of adults. This goes from barking to biting the vet. We are working on this by having controlled encounters with adults. And lots of treats. She is also extremely territorial towards adults. Lots of barking, we never have gotten an adult inside our house enough for her to bite**. She has slowly accepted adults inside our house. We had an insurance guy come over, and he patted her on the head without asking, and luckily she decided that that person was 'no threat' and responded with a tail wag and a lick. *Sadly, Crystal also suffers with fear aggression of bigger dogs. She's been like this since we got her, since she was 5 1/2 months old. If the bigger dog gets in her face, she WILL bite them. Afterwards she will hide in a corner trying to disappear. I don't take her to meet bigger dogs anymore, because she has gotten in so many fights because of HER behavior. Her behavior was there since I had her, and she was attacked once more in puppyhood, so her reputation with dogs isn't that good, sadly.

*Edit: Forgot about more of Crystal's aggression problems -sigh-
**Edit: I accidentally wrote bark instead of bite.

My first dog appeared in the family when I was 3. My Naida, my German shepherd, became my first faithful friend, ad we got to like each other from the very beginning. She recently died, and now I am planning to take a puppy when my friend's shepherd gives birth to ones, but no one will ever be able to replace me my first ever friend, I still miss her.

Did you grow up with dogs?
Yes, we had a spaniel mix, and I grew up helping my neighbor with her shepherds.

How many different breeds have you owned?
I volunteered with a service dog organization for a while as a puppy home for the older ones, 8-14 months mostly, so I had a few dogs with them. I worked with Labs, a collie, mixed breeds, and a Rottweiler. I currently own Dobermans. My housemates owned a terrier mix and a Rottie, the current one has an ACD cross.

What training (rally, sch, agility, etc) have you done with your past and current dogs?
Obedience, K9 Nosework. No tracking- we were signed up for a course, but Griffin was diagnosed with Wobblers last fall and for health reasons, is now retired.

Do you work with animals, are you a behaviorist, a vet, a vet tech, agility trainer, etc?

No, I'm not a professional trainer, the training I do is with my own dogs, and also helping friends train theirs. I also work with horses, and have done quite a bit with reptiles (lizards, box turtles, and snakes).

Have you dealt with aggression?
Yes. My first Doberman was very dog aggressive. My former housemate's Rottie was also dog aggressive, and she was a very pushy, high drive, intelligent, defensive dog. And yes, they lived in the same house at the same time.

I have volunteered and actively take part in helping to rescue, train, GSD's for over 5 years now.

Have you dealt with aggression?

Yes. Working in rescue, you deal with all kinds of dog issues and problems, which is one of the reasons why i'm constantly trying to learn, so i can assist others with issues that arise.
