You can also offer to foster him for a rescue group, which will help them, and they can help provide you with the things that you need. We don't allow solicitation on this board so suggestions are all that people can give.
Do you know of rescues in your area? That would be a win-win-win!

Definitely contact a vet office. They may know of low cost spay/neuter clinics that also do shots. Look on craigslist for items.
Did you talk to the GSD rescues about continuing to foster his guy? Or did you ask if they could take him? They might be more able to help if you offer to foster him until a new home can be found. btw...please post a pic on here and maybe start a new thread. Maybe someone on here may adopt him. Also, talk to the rescues about their adoption criteria, their contracts, how they verify info to help you help him get into the best home possible. |

Southern California German Shepherd Rescue (SCGSR) - SoCal Rescue
Coastal German Shepherd Rescue German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles Just searching Southern Cali rescues I came up with the first three. If you cannot afford to keep him, contact a rescue who can. As was said maybe offer to foster him.

Rescue entails a TON more than just pulling him.
There's neuter (yes it's critical for a rescued dog!) and all the other expenses plus temperament testing, etc. There's a lot more that goes into it than just getting him out of the shelter.

Yup..but, whats done is done. Time to think about how to deal with the situation now. I would start by contacting one of those rescues, seeing if they can help you some how. Either by letting you foster, seeing if they have a foster home to take him, helping you place him....anything. If not do a Google search for low cost spay/neuter in your area, see if you can get him neutered first, then focus on trying to find him a good home. Do home checks if you can, etc etc. Lots and lots of stuff. Oh, and pics!

Oh yeah, those are good suggestions. I'm responding to the Ops assertion that having balls is better than being dead or whatever.
I mean...there's way more that goes into it, and this "rescue mission" has barely begun, it's not over already

yep, I also recomend asking for items on craigs list, but then again, region might have some impact on peoples generosity. I was amazed at the results I received when I asked on craigs list. Also check in the free section.
most importantly, sounds like you are going to become an expert on making a budget and prioritizing. You will take care of necessities first! and on down the line. food and shelter is number one, vetting is number two, get current on vaccines! number three comes the collar, and leash, then so on. Then (not pertaining to current situation, but for future reference) don't brows shelters, not even just to look... because there will always be an animal that is in imedate danger of being PTS... always. Don't do it, unless you have funds... plans... resources... Best of luck.

Definitely check out Craig's List. You can browse through the sales section (not pets) for dog equipment such as crates, collars, leashes, etc. and you can also post a "wanted" ad with the items you need and see what responses you get.
I have gotten lots of great stuff off Craig's List. One of my two cat trees came from CL, as did my Ray Allen RAMTech crate. (I admit, that last one was a once-in-a-lifetime find!) I've also bought crates on CL when I had fosters - $30 or $40 will usually get you an XL wire crate and $50 will get you a nice VariKennel in most places. Also check the sales racks at your local pet stores. You can sometimes get some really cheap collars and leashes that are nice quality. And ... Quote:
