They are great in theory but in reality...not accurate.

An adopter of ours did a DNA test on her dog which looked part Schnauzer and it came up with part Saluki...! I've never even seen a Saluki other than in photos. We sure don't have them running around loose here!
It says right on the DNA test not to take it if the dog is a pure breed.

I thought part Belgian too before the test...I even got a door plate with a belgian shepherd with our family name on it and a door mat with a border collie--I was way off, but she is over the top smart and loving so it doesn't matter what she is!!

IIRC Amstaff was not one of the breeds that they had in their DNA database so it would make sense that it would not come up as an Amstaff...

Well the whole point is the tests are inaccurate. Why would you not want to test a purebred? Because...the test is inaccurate?

I have heard and read that people are now using them to get around BSL and breed restrictions (like for apartments and such), which isn't a bad thing necessarily but will basically lead to being misused to the point where they aren't credible any longer.

Why would you want to test a pure breed? Your looking at the dog, probably have seen its parents, have the papers, etc--what is the point of wasting your money if you already know...now that is a waste!! In my case she is mixed breed and it worked and I would do it again...but probably not on my german shepherd because I know what she is

And that's what matters! I'd like to try it. I've thrown $60 towards dumber things. How do you do it?

I'd suggest going with the blood test rather than the cheek swab test. It seems to be more accurate.

If I'd just seen Bentley, I'd say part pit.

I wouldn't worry though, there are a lot of loveable pits out there!

I did the swab, but there are a couple different ones out there. I felt the same way about the money too Just make sure you get one that has the most breeds available..some have 60 breeds in the data base and some have 150 plus...and if you think there might be part pit in there, find one that has pits in the data base..Good Luck
