Question Does your GSD Howl?

Yesterday, for the first time I heard Ice HOWL! it was freakin cool! lol

I was driving to a friends house with Ice, and all of a sudden about 10 cop cars passed by with sirens on and Ice starts howling! it was pretty loud too...

Me and my friend in the car were surprised and amused lol, so i googled the reasons for dog howling, and i'm getting a lot of different reasonings for it...

i might have encouraged his howling, was that a wrong thing to do?

Rocket has heard fire sirens many times (my DH is a firefighter and drives a pumper-ladder LOL) but the first time he heard police sirens, which was about 2 weeks ago, he howled too. Twice. I thought it was cool too. It was over though before I could do anything. I guess they are just different to him than firetrucks. I thought he was so cute doing it.

Yes Otto does when a Fire Truck or a Police Truck drives by the house.

Lakota is the 1st dog we didn't have to encourage howling, it could be anything or nothing that sets her off. The girl LOVES to howl. My husband encourages a nightly howl, it's deafening. Him and the 3 dogs I chime in every once in a while. He says it a bonding thing! She starts off slow trying to get someone else to sing along it's really funny. They all look so happy wagging their tails and all, hubby hasn't grown a tail yet.

Loki is a big howler!

We can get him to howl quite easily. The others howl but it usually involves Loki howling first to get them started

Yes Stella howls when she hears other dogs howling or if my husband is using the electric drill. I love to watch her howl.

Oh yes, Loki is nice howler. I love how they have to put their heads and snouts in position to howl. It's so ancestral.
