Default Let the Christmas puppy rehoming begin

A girl I work with got her 3 year old daughter a puppy for Christmas. She has already rehomed it. Yep, that was what, 3 weeks?? She told me today that the puppy was barking during the day and her boyfriend and their neighbor (they live in a condo) both work night shift and couldn't sleep. The neighbor complained and threatened to go to the landlord. She had never told the landlord so when she did, she was told she needed to pay $300 for the security deposit- which she didn't have. She has just shelled out $150 for the shots.

So, no money, barking puppy- you guessed it, puppy needs a new home. Luckily one of the surgeons we work with wanted him for his kids. His wife is a stay home mom and the puppy went from a condo with no yard to a mansion with a huge yard. There is even a playmate dog for the puppy. Still, I was upset because the girl didn't do any research, didn't have the money and just jumped on the idea of getting the puppy.

<sigh> I hope she learned her lesson and doesn't get anymore dogs. Honestly, I cringed when I saw it on her FB.

Why do people think it's a good idea to get pets as gifts? Much worse when they get them as surprise gifts.

At least it worked out well in this instance.
Just wondering what all the other poor throwaway Christmas pups are doing... Shelters will be getting a lot of intakes soon

Well not all Christmas stories are bad I went out and got rescue gsd for myself and hubbie for Christmas after losing my gsd of 12 years. When she passed away some well meaning friends suggested that my grownup kids get me a dog for christmas and they very wisley said no way. it has been three wonderful weeks for me.

We were surprised with Onyx on Christmas 5 years ago...my DH thought he was doing a great thing!
Had Onyx ended up in a different home, I fear she would have been dumped at a shelter...she is dominant yet fear aggressive and has some anxiety. If she didn't land in a place that could manage that, either she'd be a bite statistic or worse.
Just knowing her breeder let her go as a "surprise" to the family(without the wife's knowledge) was the very first red flag. But I'm sure he told her our experience with the breed, so she felt more at ease selling us the dominant female of the litter that she was not letting go just anywhere Oh, well, without Onyx and her issues, I never would have learned as much about behavior and health.

The sad thing is....all the pups flowing into the shelters will have the older harder to adopt dogs euth'd/pups are easier to place most often.

Any chance of him adopting me? I LOVE mansions. I can take care of the dogs. LOL!

That's a question I have been asking, too. I would never want anybody getting a puppy for me because I want to do my own research and get a puppy that suits me and what I am looking for in a dog. I feel so bad for these little babies. They deserve better than that.

LOL, I know, right. I wish someone would rehome ME to his family. And they are all just super freaking nice. The puppy (Cooper is his name) really does have it made now.

I have a friend back home who just adopted a poodle mix puppy for her son who just turned 3. She's been wanting a dog for the longest time but I think she forgot how much they cost.... I see her parents taking the dog in the near future. Same thing happened with the last dog she adopted. Frustrating!!!!
