Default Stark got attacked while hiking

Yet another "my dog got attacked" story to share... ugh.

This evening Stark, Zefra and my friend's pup Hunter (who got charged by a dog yesterday) went hiking with us. We had a GREAT hike with the dogs and were just coming out of the bush when Zefra who was up ahead of the pack stopped and got really focused on something.

I went up ahead to check it out and realized that 2 dogs (a German Shepherd and a Golden) were loose.

Knowing that Stark is not okay with other male dogs running up to him, I yelled back to my sister to leash Stark up at which point my friend leashed Hunter.

I got to Zefra (after I told her to wait) and leashed her as well. The Golden charged over and started sniffing her. She just finished her first heat and this was her first outting since. She just stood there but was clearly annoyed (trying to move away) at this point I yelled to the two owners, "leash your dog please, she is in heat and I have 2 other dogs here and one is not okay with other dogs" very loudly. They looked at me and kept walking.

Their Golden then got bored with Zefra and RAN at the two boys.

My friend and sister kept yelling at the Golden and the owners to "LEASH YOUR DOG!" and the guy just kept walking slowly towards us. Not a care in the world!

My sister had Stark in a sit by her side and he did not move.

Stark started growling and the Golden jumped on him, snarling, and grabbed his neck. The two of them fought for a split second until my sister kicked the Golden in the side and in the back end to get it to release Stark.

The guy finally WALKED over to the dogs and when my sister said, "LEASH YOUR DOG!!!" (a little more "detailed" than that) he said, "what did you want me to do? Run?" well, my sister lost it on this guy and started yelling.

Stark is okay and there are no marks on him but he was rather slobbery. He was wearing his e-collar and a backpack so I think that got in the way of the skin being damaged because there are scratches on the e-collar that were not there before.

My dogs all were recalled THE SECOND we saw other dogs coming out way.. AND LEASHED why can't people have the same common courtesy?

So frustrating.

As an active dog owner, this is bound to happen sooner or later. Again, this is why I never trust unknown and unleashed dogs.

Find out what this guys driving and pop a tire or two for being so inconsiderate and stupid. Half joking...

it IS frustrating Masi has a 'hatred' of goldens, and I know that girl 'knows' what a golden is (leftover from her failed puppy class days

My new line is,,(and yes I use some colorful language when my first polite LEASH YOUR DOG is ignore),,,"I will NOT be responsible for YOUR VET BILLS BUT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MINE"..

Sometimes it' gets em moving a little faster, sometimes not I had one woman who's nasty dog charged me, masi, & my aussie, and was trying to butt bite me, say the stupidest thing to me,, I said to her,,"your lucky he(her dog) didn't connect with my shepherd he couldn't have really gotten hurt".. She says, "well your dogs would have deserved it"...MY DOGS?? I did drop the f bomb a few times on that one..Since then , she's had visits from AC about 5 times and still doesn't get it

I guess the saying "you can fix stupid' is true

That's terrible! I go hiking with Brody off leash but the SECOND I see another person or dog he goes back on leash. How irresponsible of that dog owner! If someone tells you their dog is not ok in that situation, yes you RUN to control your dog. For it's safety as well as for the other dog's. But good for your sister for getting in there. Anything can happen in that situation. I'm just glad Stark wasn't seriously injured.

I tried yelling "stop!" "he bites" "leash your dog" none worked.

Then I started yelling "I'm going to mace your dog in the eyes" and hold my hot pink mace up.

That works REALLY well.

Because people are stupid.....sorry I couldn't resist. Kaos is pretty good at ignoring everything on walks, he's been bit on the hind leg by a schitzu (sp) and didn't even respond. Usually if I say "step" he will turn around and get behind me.....but Sherman is still young and learning and when walking both of them there is over 200 lbs of them and only 115 of me...so I carry a condensed can of citronella (dog stop? I believe) and I won't hesitate to spray it when an unleashed dog comes running up on us.

I told the guy straight out and gave him PLENTY of time to retrieve his dog that my dog is not okay with other dogs running at him, I even said to the guy, "MY DOG IS DOG AGGRESSIVE!" which he's not, but that usually works with people. Not this dumb dumb.

The German Shepherd stayed away which I was thankful for since I don't need two large dogs going after Stark with my sister holding the lead!

But it makes me so angry because I was caught, I couldn't help my sister because I was too far away AND I had Zefra...

She did kick the dog back a few times and yet the dog kept going after Stark, finally with a good kick to the stomach the dog released.

My friend was standing literally a few feet away with her 7 month old pup.

Makes me angry because I have my dogs trained to a degree that I know that no matter the situation I can recall them and have them sit/down/stand until told to do something else, this guy can't even recall his dog back to him! I don't even know if he tried to be honest, I was concentrating on Stark and then I screamed extremely loud to distract the other dog (didn't work).

ya know, it's all hindsight, coulda shoulda woulda,,but I think I would also have to said to the guy,,"I want your name and phone number, I'm going to report this to AC, and if my dog has one scratch on him you'll be paying my vet bill"..

Again, you can't fix stupid,,and this is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves!

Diane, I wish I would of too but I had Zefra, my friend had her pup and I wanted to check Stark out (it was getting dark) and my mind was a whirlpool.. plus my sister was freaking out. She is totally not a dog person and just goes with us for these hikes for my sake and because she loves our little "pack", she was still shaking in the car on the way home.
