Hi everyone, I'm Michael. I got my first Shepherd July of 2010. His name is Zander and he is a Black/Tan beauty. From day one I trained him myself and take great pride in who he is. The only flaw in the dog is his socialization, but thats all my fault. I realized Zander needed this, but I didn't realize how much till we had an accident. One day we went for a walk in a private neighborhood with no one around. Gave him some water and this 17 year old girl came running towards us screaming, yelling and jumping like a teenager and he lunged at her. Small bite, but a bite in itself is enough to get me startled. Goes to show this dog is just like me, but I'm not sure how he managed to get so far when I had my hand on the leash holding him near the collar and leash connection. Well anyways he's a 80lb. 1.5 years old neutered. He sees alot of action and he's a rascal. From digging up the same plant to playing with his toys hes harmless unless a threat is directed towards me and towards me only.
I do have a few questions already. I been thinking about a Raw Food Diet and was wondering what I can do that wont kill my check book. And whats a good way to socialize this dog to wear I can leave him with a group of people and not worry about him snapping. Hes not to found of kids, or ignorant activities, and I respect that and keep him distanced and correct him when he thinks about trying anything. |

Welcome!
One question-did you socialize him at all when he was a puppy? If so, to what extent?

Sign up for an obedience class. The trainers should be able to help you work through this issue. It's hard to give good advice over the internet for things like this, because unless we were actually there and saw the whole thing, we can't judge. But I'm sure you know, a biting dog is a big liability, so you'll want to get a handle on this behavior quickly.

Yeah I took him every where I went and im 20 years old so I go alot of places. And the dog biting was the reason i took him to classes and he knew not to do anything. He passed with flying colors and we were invited to be the demo for all the other classes and invited to joing the club. We let him out to chase the deer and we have a 6 acre yard so **** get to the end of the yard near the woods and ill just say Zander Come turn my back and keep walking and in 10 secs hes at my side. I honestly think I can trust him 100% matter fact I know I can its the other people with there dogs I cant. They will let there dogs get right on top of my dog without think GSD's are big dogs and can kill my poodle by stepping on it. Invasion of privacy thats all
