Default Better safe than sorry?

I might be having to temporarily move (or it could be permanent) in the next month or so.

The house I am moving to has another dog. He will be neutered soon...as in whenever his owner gets around to it.

I have an intact female GSD. She is about 10 months. No real signs of heat. Yet.

Should I spay her now? I really wanted to wait until she was about 14mos or so. I can keep her separate from him, but even as I type this I can think of the high likelihood this could fall through. Fast.

I don't want to press the issue with this dog being neutered...but he really needs it, and he is older. I think that that would be very rude to do.

Any thoughts?

Given you dont have a definite on whether the male will actually be altered and keeping them seperated until you spay her is not 100% since you only control 50% of the situation and have to rely on the other person to handle their 50% appropriately, I'm not sure I would risk it. Males can be pretty determined when they catch the scent of a female in heat. You just never know. Spay your girl. The one and only reason Shasta is still intact is because Riley is fixed so we didnt have the worry of puppies. (she'll be fixed in about a month and a half).

I think its a weight the pros and cons situation.
