Just spent a night in a canine companion room at the Sleeping Lady Resort near the Bavarian village of Leavenworth, WA. It was wonderful, lots of hiking trails, some snow. We went into town and found the pet store, They gave us a list of dog friendly pubs and restaurants and we enjoyed a beer by the outside fire pit at the Icicle Brewing House. The Christmas lights were still up and it was very lovely--and almost deserted. We opted for the buffet dinner back at the resort and Havoc took a nap in the car.
The room had a nice sheepskin dog bed and bowls were provided-as well as additional towels. They ask that the dog stay off the bed and the room was warm enough that Havoc didn't have a problem complying. He did not want to leave this morning. He enjoyed tracking things through the snow and being the focus of our attention. The sad thing was that he was not allowed in the resort's lovely bar, rec.room, or library which limited our activities but I took the opportunity to beat my husband at gin rummy. This is my favorite time of year to travel. I hate crowds and rooms are so much cheaper off season. We're going to my favorite dog beach for three days in a couple of weeks. |

It's a compromise to vacation with the dog. My husband and I try to take turns staying with him if the other wants to swim or sauna but it's not as fun by yourself. Sometimes we bring our own meals so that we don't have to leave him in the car while we dine or order room service. It kind of forces us to have Havoc on his best behavior. We've stayed at the Coeur D'Alene resort with him and a resort in Montana. It's kind of like traveling with a toddler.
My favorite place is the Hi-Tide Ocean Beach Resort. There is nothing there--just the beach and the river. The whole place is dog friendly and each unit has a fully equipped kitchen. We bring in food, wine and jigsaw puzzles and tons of extra socks. I think that these vacations are good bonding for the Havoc monster. He's going through his stinky adolescence and new places are very interesting but a wee bit scary so he's continually checking in with us plus we aren't distracted by our computers, telephones, and chores. There's also the incentive of showing off his good behaviors. One thing that I've noticed in most dog-friendly rooms, the doors show evidence of scratching. People ignore the request to not leave dogs alone and bathroom doors and front doors frequently show evidence of escape attempts. Judging from the size, I'd have to say the majority of offenders are little dogs. I guess that they travel more frequently. I make sure to report damage like that right away--they usually know but I don't want to be blamed. |

We went there quite a few years ago when we were tired of there never being snow here and the kids wanted to go sledding!
Our anniversary is coming up and was just hoping to find something neat to do, this sounds like fun
