Red face I Picked Viktor Up From The Kennel Early

I came home from visiting my Mom in Florida a day early, because I missed my buddy

He was there Friday, Saturday and Sunday... I picked him up yesterday afternoon. There was a lot going on at the the Kennel when I got there. Maybe half a dozen people. I was standing outside talking to some people when Scott brought Viktor out. There was a moment when he seemed like he didn't recognize me... then this moment of recognition, and he was all jumping and kisses.

He was pretty wound up the rest of the day, but I tried to get him back into his routine. He did settle down. The only bad thing was that he did go to the bathroom in the basement, but I was expecting that.

So, all in all, it was ok. I was all worried for nothing.

i'm glad everything worked out for Viktor. why were you
expecting him to go to the bathroom in the basement? it
seems you could have avoided it if you expected it.

I was expecting him to want to want to "mark" somewhere on his return.

I suppose I could have avoided it had I closed the basement door when I jumped in the shower. But, I always leave it open, in case of emergencies.

Welcome Back Greg! Hope your holiday was nice.

Since Viktor is kenneled often, it could be that he views his options in the basement (concrete floor) as the same as at a kennel....just a thought. Also he was probably not housebroken properly in the first place, so he has a lot to overcome.

Hi Lee. The holiday was nice, thanks. And yours???

I think you are right about him seeing that as an option and I have allowed it far too much. But, we shall keep training and working on it.

Glad it went well. Last time I sent Grendel to a kennel she came back spoiled rotten. Haughty, demanding, pushy, entitled. It was just awful.

Your the same as me. I live just 2 hours south of Orlando. My husband and I sometimes will do a quick 1 or 2 day vacation just to get away. I always end up saying I'm ready to go home early because I miss my babies! Thankfully my mother lives 5 minutes away so I don't have to kennel them. I am a vet tech and I still won't bring my dogs to stay there. I fully trust my coworkers but I just feel so bad for leaving them there!

Haha, wish we had kennels like this here!

Glad it all went well. I've yet to kennel Gryff, but Keeta has been kenneled, and she just took to it like it was normal business. So nice to have confident dogs that take new experiences in stride.
