Paddlock love that one!
if an e collar is so humane, i'd love to see you use it on your children to correct them. i don't use chain/choke/prong collars either. i've never jerked his leash either.

I've never used an ecollar, but I'm not opposed to the idea with the right training and a situation that truly called for it.

There's nothing wrong with a pinch collar. Not a fan of chokes at all, but pinch collars are nice tools. Just like good clips are nice tools.

Rather off topic, but my trainer made me wear both the pinch collar and the e-collar before he'd teach me how to use it with the dog...he had a grand old time with that...I'm a total weenie, and while it was uncomfortable, it didn't hurt at all...and I don't have fur on my neck.
Anywho, I know how you feel--Echo will NOT do his business on leash, he has to have privacy Those caribeaner clips work wonders, with the screw locks I've never had a dog undo one. I think at his age, recall training is absolutely the way to go but to a certain degree, they'll test it at every chance they get... "oh yeah? or what?" sort of attitude... so let us know how those clips work Echo was also particularly hard to recall at night, and I found that using an especially desirable treat as a reward worked pretty well too... jerking around was fun, but getting a bit of raw steak/chicken/whatever made him positively drool at the time, that he never got otherwise, was more fun. Any way you can make coming back an exceedingly positive experience, go for it.

No tring to start a fight but by all of your responses to what everyone has said you are not willing to take a constructive criticsm! What you have is not a problem of being able to restain your dog but a training problem or lack there of. my dog does not run around free all the time but when he does he is trained to come to me (he is 5 months old). you say he is a working line so he is very smart and would benifit and enjoy any and all training. my and any other dog trainer will suggest you use all of the training equipment. or maybe thats what the trainer you seen earlier wanted and thats why you left i dont know. you should put some trust into a good trainer in your area and fallow there advise. but as they say its your dog do with what you will. not ment as a fight or bad words just tring to help!

Chief was an escape artist as well. I got a clip like the one your trainer used at the local hardware store. Chief wasn't able to get away from that clip. Maybe try Home Depot or Lowes. I have had to tie my dogs out as well since we aren't allowed to have a fence across the back of our yard and we live right next to a major 4 lane road. I use a trolley run that goes the width of our yard. Wolfie goes out for a supervised hour in the morning and also in the afternoon. I play fetch with him out there and work on training and recall while he is on the run. I prefer to be safe rather than take a chance.

exactly which is why i said work on recall not on a secure way to tie him. my old dog could get out of anything or break it if she couldn't, nothing will be escape proof. and since he's not unattended, which is great, then work on the recall.
