I know this is a potentially explosive puppy price question, the bitch has been confirmed as preggers by ultrasound. The pup is for my hubby who is deployed right now, I called him and said "guess what we are preggers" totally freaked him out until I explained LOL :-)
I double checked on the price and it is more than I thought, can I get advice??? ![]() I am totally OK with the price, but my hubby (who the pup is for) is not sure about it. I would LOVE to hear from GSD experts. Here is the mom and dad. Ash vom Kriegerhund - German Shepherd Dog V Voodoo Hartis Bohemia - German Shepherd Dog |

Sorry, I was trying to be too careful to not step on any rescue vs breeder toes....
![]() The breeder is asking what I think is a reasonable price (over $1200) but hubby doesn't think so. He's concerned about the price and I was hoping to get some GSD expert opinions that we aren't being taken to the cleaners. I have researched the parents, but I am far from an expert....Help?? Thanks!!!! |

For a dog that comes from solid bloodlines, from a breeder who works hard to insure high quality puppies...$1200 is very reasonable. I paid $800 for mine and have regrets about the quality of the dog. It is so worth it to make the investment in a dog that is going to be with you for years to come.

I think the maximum amount I would be willing to pay for a puppy would be $1,800, but that would have to be from some pretty awesome parents.
I'd be more comfortable paying between $1,200 - $1,500. There's a breeder I found who charges $3,000+ for puppies. Sorry, but unless it poops gold and can live on eating air particles, I'm not paying that much for a puppy. An older trained dog, maybe, but not a pup.

Hey, your puppy's grandma is my puppy's grandfather's sister! We're related!
Other than that, I don't know much about the specific dogs in question, but $1200 is on the lower end of normal as far as pricing for a quality working line dog.

I would expect to pay $1200-$1800 for a nice working line puppy from someone I didn't know (ie, not going to give me a deal!).
