I agree that $1200-$1800 is the going rate of a working line puppy in the US. I don't know if I'd pay $1200 for a puppy out of the breeding you posted, but that is personal preference. This breeding could be exactly what you're looking for, but that's what you need to figure out...what you're looking for

The value of a puppy is a personal thing. If this litter is what you are interested in then $1200 is very reasonable. If it isn't what you are interested in, than the price is too high. As others have said the normal range for working lines is $1200-$1800 with some higher and some lower.

That's the thing, I am not an expert in the genetics and really not even fully sure what to look at except for hip certs. We are mainly wanting a healthy mentally stable pup, hubby says he wants to do Schutzhund but there isn't anyone anywhere around our Base (hubby is a pilot in the Air Force) that does it.
When I got Duke 7 years ago I was totally comfortable with the price and the lines, I went and saw the father in a Schutzhund competition. I have only seen the lines of these dogs and pics of their last litter. Amazing animal pictures on Webshots The breeder I had originally contacted and have talked to quite a few times isn't the owner of the bitch, it's a friend of hers. They want $1600 with $100 off for us being military. The pup is going to be a little girl for my husband, we lost Missy last October after 14 years. We had her longer than we had been married. He still feels guilty that he drug her to all our duty stations and that she died so far from home. It has taken him a full year to get over loosing her. The time frame is also a factor since he won't be back in country until January, and really wants to be home for her first months. I know this is a rambling post and I am sorry, but I just really want everything to be perfect for DH. Am I being a nervous nelly? |
