I know I trust my dog too much. It's incredibly stupid of me, but I do it anyway. I have put far too much trust in the idea that he wouldn't bite. We once went camping in a very secluded spot - no roads, no buildings, nothing. He didn't even wear a collar for weeks. One night after sunset the landowner came out to visit, and Jack got a lot more serious than I've ever seen him; growling and blocking the way into our camp until I called him away. The man ignored Jack and calmly sat down and started talking with everyone, but it took me a long time to calm my dog down. It's probably the first time I've ever put much thought into the fact that he might hurt someone he deemed a threat.
I haven't put enough effort into formal training. He can do obedience exercises with the best of them... as long as we're 100 yds away from other dogs. If I put more time into proofing the work we've done, he has the potential to earn some real titles, but I've been lazy and haven't brought him to his full potential. |

ugh...I've failed my dogs in so many ways. It would probably take 3 pages to list all the reasons I am a terrible dog owner
BUT some days my dogs are soooo good, I feel I could give Milan a run for his money. They listen, they behave...basically perfect angels. Then we wake up the next day and it goes from bad to worse. I just hang my head in shame. |
