I apologise if this has been asked before but I was wondering if other crate trained dogs act like Rio?
She is a year and 5 months old now and doing great with her training so we decided to leave her crate open during the night. The first night my OH forgot to open the crate when we got into bed. We only realised this when Rio started pacing around the bed, crying and nudging our hands. We opened it up and she went asleep inside the crate instantly. Now every night she chooses to go into the crate herself and just wont settle anywhere else. Does your dog prefer to sleep in the safety of their crate even when given the option of sleeping elsewhere?

My dog like to sleep on top of her crate. She will go inside on her own
if it is cold enough. She has a pad on top as well as inside. http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum...y-top-bunk.jpg |

Kaiser likes to be on top of the crate too. The bed was up there so I could vaccum but he decided he liked being up so I left it like that for a while. Raven only goes in there to have a toy all to herself.

Ha, Callie isn't big enough to get on top yet, but she has started going in there all by herself to nap or be alone. When she first started we gave her lots of good girls and praise. I'm glad she feels comfy in there. So cute with them on top the crate though!

My pup doesn't seem to mind the crate. He goes right in without being asked to do so. I wouldn't say he loves it. I have a feeling he would rather rampage thru the house destroying everything in his path. He just doesn't know about that option and you can't miss what you've never had.
Dogs and cats are creatures of habit. They seem to prefer structure and schedule in their homes. |

We don't give the dogs access to their crates during the day since they are in our bedroom loft and we leave that area as a dog-free zone for our cats. But they willingly go in at night and don't make a fuss.
Although I will say that one night recently I had a bit too much hard cider and did not properly latch Rosa's crate. She waited until my husband turned out the light, and then tip-toed downstairs and went to bed on her pillow. So I guess if given the choice, Rosa would prefer to sleep elsewhere.

Ozzy doesn't love his crate, but he doesn't hate it either. Sometimes if I leave the door open for him, he'll go in there to chew on his bone or something. He'd definitely rather sleep with me than in his crate, though. He doesn't put up a fuss when I tell him, "Crate." He just goes in and lays down.

Yep... I have come home and found Stoli sleeping in it especially if he was really tired and that's even with my roommates home. He loves them but when he wants alone time he goes in my room where his crate is to sleep. At night he goes from the floor to his crate to the floor to on the bed in the mornings....so I can't say which he prefers in terms of being in the crate or not but it's obviously in the top 3 lol
