Rabies tag

Do vet's still give dog's rabies tags for their colars after they get their rabbies? Just wondering cause when sadie got her rabies she never got one, just a piece of paper for proof of rabies. about 3 years ago I also got two other dogs rabies shots and the vet didn't give those dogs rabies tags either.

I think it depends on the state? MI still gives a rabies tag, and the color changes every year. My vet has their info inscribed on it, so it will help to locate the dog if lost much quicker.

I've always recieved a rabies tag for my dogs here in New York, maybe the "health code" in your area doesn't require a dog to wear a rabies tag, but just have proof of vaccination.

to my knowledge they're supposed to give a new tag every time they get the vaccine, not just the paperwork for it. I know its illegal in most places for a dog to be out and NOT wearing an updated rabies tag. May have to look into local laws in your area to know for sure.

Depends on the clinic. They have to be ordered by the clinic with their name and the year of vaccination. Some clinics cut that out to cut costs down.
We use them and its amazing, since we have the record in the computer with the owners name on it by the tag number, when someone calls that they found a dog with one of our tags, we can see who owns the dog and get hold of the owners. We have reunited a dog in California(I live in Wyoming) who was on vacation and got away from the owner, someone found it, called us, we called the owner and they were still in California looking for their dog.

i got one also.

yup Thor got his tag, plus a certificate thru the mail. I believe in Texas it's mandatory or it's suppose to be, might be wrong. Maybe you should call her and ask her about it.

Where I live they do give the tags! They don't have the name of the clinic though, just the county info.

I don't get a rabies tag, I just get a certificate. I think the state of California should give rabies tags along with the certificate.
