It's kinda funny how we all need a license to drive, but anyone can purchase a live thinking feeling animal and just throw it away when it no longer suits their purpose. It should be a criminal offense. Then again, there are some people who continue to have children when they have no way or intention to take care of them. Go figure.
I'm so glad you were able to keep that pup, how adorable!

What a beautiful pup - love her markings. So glad you were able to give her a home. Am looking forward to hearing more about her!!!

It's nice seeing you back on the boards - I was thinking about you when that huge volcano was erupting!!!

she is gorgeous! glad she found someone who actually cares about her. Dumping animals because you either didn't realize the work involved or because you're too lazy to even attempt to find a place that will accept animals is one of those things that irks me too. We're looking into buying a house at our next duty station simply because we cant bear the thought of parting with any of our animals! I really dont understand those people who are military and they get a dog when they move and when the go to move again, they get rid of the dog for any number of reasons and get a new dog and repeat the whole process again at the next station!!!! sorry... had to vent there.

Glad she found you!

Okay i am gonna bite the bullet here...I am one of those people...the last one was sammy...there were good reasonings as to why i had to find her another home...But i have also discovered that i just cannot take on another animal...I am so happy with the two that i have. I have always done this, my entire married life...I don't know why i do it, but no more...I guess i just keep thinking oh well i am helping this animal, giving it love...but you know they never had their shots, flea med or anything else...THey just had my love and attention...But i can honestly say now after breeding dachshuds(they were reg. and had all their shots wormings and all that), that when we quit, i just didn't ever want a house full of dogs anymore...I don't know how many people try to give me dogs, and its like nope can't help ya, and i feel bad cause i don't know where that animal is going but i just can't do it anymore...anyway i expect some very bad feedback from everyone and i am prepared to take it,, but i am so glad she found you she looks very happy.

I understand not wanting a house fill of dogs. I really do. Just irks me because my parents did it but they've also never really been any kind of responsible and were the kind of people who wanted a dog to come fully trainined and just perfect. they never wanted to do the training or anything required for sanitys sake. We're currently trying to rehome a dog we rescued and having 4 dogs in the house right now is driving me batty. My husband and i have always had 2 dogs and 2 cats until recently. Well we have 4 dogs and two cats. the cats wont ever go until they're ready to go to kitty cat heaven. My husbands dog isn't going anywhere except the rainbow bridge when he's ready and being 6 this coming january, we have a while before he decides he's done with us lol. My adult Zena is living with my inlaws possibly for the rest of her life if we are unable to get moved some place the humidity wont be as hard on her ears and head. Shelby will be with us until she literally forces us to put her to sleep because nobody else can handle her and her issues. No joke. She is just really quirky and we've had GSD only trainers try to work with her and it just wont happen. And Shasta isn't going anywhere because she's out latest puppy who was actually supposed to take the place of Riley's companion/playmate but we got Shelby before Shasta. Mia is the one we're trying to rehome because my parents had finally gotten to the point they wanted another dog after their last one disappeared (stolen by neighborhood kids) and we were going to give them Mia since she was only supposed to be with us a short time anyway and now they cant take her. 4 dogs is driving me nuts. Mia is very sweet and very good with kids and other animals and she's the best behaved dog i've ever been around in my life! but she was abused by her last two owners so she's extremely submissive and i'm getting to the point that i feel her quality of life will not improve because she seems to adamently refuse to calm down and de-stress. The ONLY time this dog is happy is when Shasta tackles her.

I guess my issue is not people who have a valid reason for having to rehome a pet but "they just wont fit in my car" is not a valid reason in my book. I wont give up one of my kids and my pets are my furry kids and i'll fight tooth and nail and then some to keep them as well. We're seriously looking into buying a van just so we have more than enough space for everyone to be comfy on road trips and when we do move to a different state! I agree that people should find out what they can and can not have where they live so they dont have to get rid of the animal for that reason but more often than not, getting rid of an animal is because they just didnt want to deal with more work. If we do somehow manage to find Mia a good home, instead of having to put her to sleep, i will screen her potential home and do everything in my power she'll go to the best possible place but after that, her fate is literally out of my hands.

I do not understand how people do not realize the GSD will be a 80 lbs. adult when they buy the 15 lbs pup. and they suddenly realized the pup turned up to be too big.

I do not understand how people notice that the yard is only 20 m square after the pup is 9 months old.

and over everything...
I do not understand how, after sharing your life for 6 years with a dog when people decide to move they don't care to find a house that allows dogs and suddenly have to rehome them.

(notice I said "decide", there are of course situations where moving is not optional)

EXACTLY!!!!! I mean everyone has seen GSDs as police dogs and service dogs and in movies and probably at the local animal shelter or their neighbor had one. How can they NOT know that every GSD is generally a pretty good sized dog?! I've seen what people are calling a miniture GSD. It had something wrong with i think its the pitutitary gland? that prevented growth. We have a small yard. The dogs go outside to potty and for exercise they get walked a few times a day! Dogs are work!!! People are lazy. As i said previously, we're looking at buying a house at our next station just so we can keep ALL of out pets!!! I cant stand those who just dump their "beloved" pets off like an ex boyfriend! I'm sorry. I raise my dogs as a part of the family and damnit! A part of the family they'll stay until their time comes! Plain and simple.

She is so pretty!!! How could anyone do such a thing? Thank goodness she has you know!Thank you for taking her!!

As an animal shelter volunteer, I see many people turning their dogs over. Its never easy, especially for the owner. Because of this economy people who are repsonsible caring dog owners lose their homes ad jobs and hav to give up one of their beloved family members.

I am grateful that my shelter has programs where they will foster a dog or cat until the owner can get back on their feet.

well mad props to the shelter you work at!! i can understand people needing help and the fact they seek it means a great deal but for those who dont.... i dont understand why people wont use the resources offered them.

Example: woman on craigslist asked for training advice on how to handle her dogs. She is basically one of those people who had no business with a dog without help from the start for training much less having 2 dogs. When she realized how much work it was going to take and how much SHE would have to put into it after causing the problems, she's pawning the dogs off on someone else. One dog is extremely child aggressive and the other is extremely animal aggressive, child aggressive and just a very ill behaved animal. These are the kind of dogs that people SHOULD be afraid of. They were severely mistreated by her ex husband and she should have sought help then. Offered to help her find a foster where these dogs could hopefully be rehabilitated until she told me she had no intention of telling anyone about their issues and wanted me to sign a statement saying i wouldn't say anything regarding the issues these dogs had either. Some people just anger me with how they do things! My point is, she had resources available to her so she could keep her supposed beloved dogs and she decided she wants to ditch these two and get another puppy! When people take the resources offered i praise them. When they refuse them and pawn the problem off on someone else without full knowledge being passed to the new "home" i have no respect for them. i'm tired and i'm ranting so i'm going to bed.
