Default Need some expert opinions....lol

I went to Petsmart today to pick up dogfood (by the way blue buffalo is on sale..lol) and as Raven and I were walking threw the store a little boston terrier went nuts, jumping and making all kinds of noise. Now usually when my dog see's another dog she is good, I just redirect her, with sit, leave it etc.. and she is great. But not today. She went nuts! Acting just as bad as the boston terrier. Of course when a little boston terrier acts like this it does not look to bad but when a german shepherd acts this way every head in the store turned. Even my husband was upset with me..lol
I am talking with a trainer at work to start more training and maybe agility in the fall. She knows all her basic commands.
I walk her twice a day daily and work on her commands.

But every now and then a dog will go by and she will go nuts. I have taken places where 30 dogs will walk by her or up to her with no problem and than just one particular dog she see's will make her out of control.

Does anyone have this problem or had this problem? And what did you do to correct this problem?

The one thing I've learned in the last three years...when you think you have it all licked and your dog is perfect....the find some way to make donkey's butt out of you.

Those little yappy dogs are such a test...makes you wonder what they are really saying!
Karlo isn't reactive to dogs at all and last week a yorkie came around the corner on leash yipping and yapping like a fool at the end of the line. Karlo saw it as prey, I believe and went after her. Didn't hurt her thankfully, but scared me to death!
First time in his life that he didn't have recall...I know better now.

I have taught Masi a good "leave it" and normally use it when I am coming across another dog , i try to time my leave it, right when I see a dog approaching..

HOWEVER )) if said dog starts going off on Masi, you can usually bet, she's gonna get in the last bark,,(kinda like you barking at me?? I'm gonna BARK at YOU!),,as soon as I turn around she shuts up, and we go on..

I think it's kinda normal for some gsd's, especially, to go into defense mode or big mouth mode, when another dog is going "off" on them

I would not break stride, just give her a stern leave it, and a bit of a jerk with the leash and walk by (if there is enough room to do so). Praise her when she is quiet and doing what you want.

The dog barked at her, she barked back. LEAVE IT! and walk by, if necessary a little leash pop.

Practice, practice, practice heel, sit, down, stay, leave it, etc. But in the heat of this LEAVE IT, HEEL and go on.

Do not worry about other people's reaction. Do not stop to apologize (if there was no connection). You may just say EH! leash pop, Leave it, but keep going so that the dog has to turn her head back to look at the dog, at that point remind her to HEEL and get her attention on obedience commands. Once the other dog is out of sight you can do some basic commands and then praise her for doing them properly.

Ain't that the truth. No matter what, they will always surprise us now and then . . . just to keep us on our toes.

I am def. going to work on the leave it command although she knows that one very very well at home. I have 5 cats and two of the cats are 13 and 18 yr old...Raven wants to play and lick them and they would rather not have anything to do with them so leave it is used alot..lololol and she listens every time.
After I came back from petsmart I took her on her evening walk and one of my neighbors walked about 50ft ahead of me with a little hyper dog..my mind was saying ohhhh nooooo not again..lolol..but I told Raven to leave it and she sat and did not react at all. A woman that was driving by stopped and told me how impressed she was and how well behaved she thought she was. I chuckled to myself..lolol
I will def. work on her commands!

You guys have made made me a great deal better...thanks!

Whatever that little Boston said to her must have been bad... wonder if it was talking about you? "Don't talk about my mom like that you little $#@!%!"
I don't blame her.. I don't care for yappy little dogs either... except of course my little Sadie, but she's not really yappy, she rarely ever barks, much less at a dog five times her size.......
