Default Do you believe in doggie soulmate?

I have had other dogs and love them like family, we would do anything for them. But I do have to admit Thor was my doggie soulmate. We just had that special connection I can't explain where he read my moods and always comforted me. He got me through a bad divorce. In fact, he gently stopped my ex from pushing me around a few times. He was my protector and best friend. We had 15 wonderful years together. I can still remember how I was in college and picked him out of 10 terrified pups. He was the biggest male, all black. The breeder never socialized them although he was not a BYB he was also not an example to be followed! So needless to say, I did everything I wasn't supposed to do in picking a pup (I didn't know any better). But wouldn't I know that out of all these mistakes came a wonderful companion!

For a while it was just the two of us and we would have tons of fun going to the beach and river and just hanging out. So even though I love my other dogs deeply. Thor will always have that special place in my heart.

My husband, before we met, had a chow-GSD mix he found sick on the streets. He took her in and she was the best thing to him since she gave him support through his cancer ordeal, his ex told him "to die already" but Fritzy was emotional support that made a big difference. She was with him for 14 years, camping and going on hikes. She was his doggie soulmate.

Things change and thank God we found each other. So any dog we have from now on is going to be a family dog and not a one person dog like before, but I still believe in doggie soulmates

I would love to hear your stories!

I have always heard that referred to as you "heart dog". My Golden Retriever Ginger was my heart dog. She was an amazing dog and we had a type of connection I can't even explain. She would know what I wanted without me even having to say anything.
I rescued her as a stray and at first she was very shy and scared of loud noises, people, raised voices/hands, and a lot of 'new' things. I was able to work with her and get her over her fears and turn into a confident and relaxed dog. She was also the most tolerant dog I've ever met, she would let anyone do anything to her-- she'd stand still and wag her tail when she was getting a shot, or let kids pull on her (I stopped them if they did of course!) or do anything else to her while being happy for the attention.
She was with me all the time and I took her everywhere I could with me, my friends always knew if I was coming to visit Ginger would be with me and people who saw me without her would ask where she was. Everyone in the neighborhood knew her, all the kids would say hi to her when we walked down the street and even the police would stop to say hi to her. She loved everyone, including babies, dogs, cats, ferrets, small animals...except for a very few people and I trusted her judgement (she was always right about people who were "bad".) She taught me a lot and helped me become more confident as I used to be really shy, but having such an outgoing dog made me have to actually talk to people! I also met many of the friends I have today through Ginger, while walking her, or at training classes or dog events, shelter walks etc... I learned about a lot of dog activities and things through Ginger, she did a lot of different activities including AKC obedience, agility, flyball, carting, lure coursing, backpacking, animal assisted therapy, dog camps, shows etc...
I could go on and on but this would turn into a huge post... You can read more here instead if anyone is interested:

I have had dogs throughout my life and we are about to get our next GSD. But I believe that my last GSD was my doggie soulmate. I had the name chosen my whole life. She knew me and I knew her from the moment I first held her. Gosh I miss her.

John is my human soul mate, but Remo was my 4-legged one. He would try to read me and anticipate what I was going to ask him to do. John would take him down to the river to play all day while I would be off doing rescue work, and the first thing he would do when he came in the door is blast around the house looking for me. He would scream with delight every day when I came home from work. I never needed a leash for him because we were attached at the heart. I don't think I will ever have another relationship with a dog that will come close to what I had with Remo. He has been gone for a little over a month now, and there is not a day that passes that I don't weep for him. I have been lucky enough to have lots and lots of dogs in my life, but no other dog has been that close to my soul.

Soulmates are often times thought of as a partner, someone you spend your life with. Most people think of this in terms of a husband, wife, SO or the like. Most people only believe that there is one. I, personally think, that people confuse that with what is called a twinflame or soultwin

Souls travel in "packs", so to speak. They can connect with more than one person, or thing in each life. Not all souls come back together at the same time, each coming back when it is there time. So, like it could be soul 1 and 2 in this live, soul 1 and 2 and 5 in the next, 1 and 5, 2 and 5...etc etc etc.

Usually when the soul is ready to come back they come back on futher down the family line, or as a close family member. It isnt unusual though for one to come back as an animal, or someone whom you will never get to meet in this life.

Only my own personal opinions though

Baily would be my heart dog, or soul dog. Oddly enough I got her from an add in the paper. Wasn't looking for a dog, but I just happened to open it up to the pets section without meaning to and there is was in big bold letters in the middle of the page. Dunno why but thats the first place that I looked for whatever reason. Something tugged, so I went and talked with them.

They were a young married couple who were both working and going to college. They found her on campus with a tie out around her neck that had imbedded. They got her fixed up mostly but couldnt keep her. I took her on the spot, it was a connection from the beginning. Half the time she knows what im thinking before I tell her, its just something much harder to explain, a feeling that isnt there with my other dogs. I mean dont get me wrong, I love my little scruffy crack dog bounce off the wall terrier mix. He's my snuggle buddy, but its much much different.

My heart dog was the first GDS my now husband bought me before we got married. She was a 13 week old, bi-colored pup, I named Duchess. As she grew up, she became my shadow, always there, always by my side, always with me. She and I bonded like no dog I've ever had before.
She was my protector, kept me from being attacked by a stranger who came out of the woods at the barn one evening, kept me from being abused, by a then alcoholic father, and taught me so much. She was so good to me. She watched out for me, to the point she'd wake me up in the middle of the night, just to make sure I was okay. I'd pat her head and she'd lay back down... We excelled in obedience together, played with agility and even completed a search and rescue class...
She passed unexpectedly, and it broke my heart. No dog could ever compare to her, no matter who they are or what they do or what they are... there will never be another Dutch.

I am sorry to hear about your lose of Remo. I lost my Bink (4 legged soul dog) almost 8 months ago and I know when I was only a month out, it was still to raw to even talk about without crying. Just wanted to send you a hug

Echo was my soulmate/heart dog. While I've always loved all the Hooligans, there was a special bond between Echo and me, he changed my life as much as I changed his.
