How fast does their fur come in. Murphy lost all the white fuzz that was under his fur last week and the light black stripe down his back. He's got his diamond on his tail and the tip of it is black also.
He's gotten really shinny and smoother, and now I swear, every day, there is more and more black hair poking through up around his neck. He's not done changing, I know that. He's only 11 wks, but I swear he changes color every day

Blitz will be 14 weeks old in a few days and his coat is much silkier and shinier. I think his raw diet is the main contributing factor though. His colors are getting deeper too. He hasn't lost any fur though, but then again he doesn't like to leave the AC when its hot out !!

When do their coats stop changing? Shadow is a little over a week off 8 months and we've just noticed in the last couple of days more tan/fawn color coming threw. Her obedience trainer thinks she still has to get her adult coat because her fur isn't wirery.

If you feed a quality diet, the coat will stay soft. At 8 months the adult coat is usually in, but not thickened up. Depending on the seasons of course. Onyx never got a thick coat til this past winter at 3yrs. I think it had to do with weather conditions. Karlo got a very thick undercoat this winter as well and under a yr old.
He is pretty tight coat now in summer, undercoat has shed. The seasons and weather play a huge part in undercoat, but coat condition should always be nice(not flakey, dry or coarse to the feel) regardless. I fostered a Kelpie/GSDx and his coat was more coarse, due to his Kelpieness! |
