Everyone has really good advice here. I also agree that you don't want your fiancee to be fearful of her own dog so maybe show her some dogs that are therapy dogs for example. A GSD is a lot of work but the rewards are just out of this world. I would also take the pup to get socialized with lots of kids but remember pups are little land sharks with their sharp teeth!!! And keep doing the kid thing often so he/she does not forget that kids can be a handful! Also plan on taking him/her to obedience classes, it is a great way to socialize your dog and get good tips. Also good points on the amount of time the pup will be alone. When we had a teenage dog, we bought a kennel at costco and put in our garage. It was bigger than a crate since he was a big boy and he really enjoyed being in his space for about 4-6 hours but with breaks, we live only 5 min from work! Also look for a breeder who will match the pup to you, they know the pups better than you will in 15 min so let the experts decide
definitely meet the parents. Also look at temperaments and different lines. Wildhaus kennels has a great article on temperament on their site and also information on show lines vs working lines. Also remember to throughly puppy proof your house just as you would with a child, also your yard. There are numerous poisonous plants that we keep at home and in our yard that we are not aware of. This should be good practive for when you guys have kids!!!good luck!
