Default Painful to watch... from UK.

You guys have to watch this. What do you think of the judge's explanation?

Cheers,
Ana

All I can say from the video is that looks like some very uncomfortable gsd's trotting around that show ring. That roached back and rear angulation is what you'll see in most of these show dogs though. I guess it just is what it is.

They have to justify the crippling of the show dog somehow and that's how they do it.

And people find that attractive?Thank god neither Molly or Tanner have that sloped back.It looks painful, and not very attractive. How is a dog supposed to herd with legs like that?It tells you alot about show breeding. Some people are in it for themselves, and not the dog. They rather risk their dogs health to get best in show.Makes me think twice about some things. That judge must be crazy, to think thats healthy or attractive.Just preparing for major vet bills.

The short clip about the GSD's was part of an hour long BBC Special from a few years ago. Pedigree Dogs Exposed. All six (?) parts are on youtube if you go look. Have to keep in mind, this isn't about all breeders. It's about those who just are breeding to a look, and in some cases for some breeds this 'look' has gotten VERY extreme and away from how the same breed used to appear. Here's Part 1

Ugh. Those dogs are crippled. I really have to question the the judge's opinion, as it seems obvious to even a casual observer that there structural problems.

When I began my search for a GSD, I almost gave up because of what breeders have done to the dog. I told my husband many times that the breed has been ruined. I definitely did not see these extreme examples in 1989.

There really is something afoot with the AKC & UKC if they not only approve, but endorse this grotesque deformation.

It is sad to watch i saw the whole film when it came out as i used to live in the uk, I went to crufts early 2000 ish cant really remember the year but i can safely say there wasn't one dog there that could have out ran or worked my dog. Its all a case of taking looks to the extreme, i think although i could be wrong that there was something on the kennel club about getting the breed sorted out when you see something like that it doesnt make me proud to be british!!!! ok will finish there as i could rant on for ages

The AKC has NOTHING to do with the current problems of the breed.

The AKC does NOT write the standard - the breed club does. The GSDCA maintains the standard, the description to which all German Shepherds are compared and judged.

The AKC has NOTHING to do with the look of the dogs being shown in the rings today.

BREEDERS breed for what wins. JUDGES select the dog they think most closely matches the standard.
