Default Would this be a good challenge for a GSD?

Today I was thinking of ways to mentally challenge a GSD, and this is one idea that floated through my mind.

After the dog is taught all of the basic commands, like sit, stay, down, etc., play one or several notes that also corresponds with a specific command. I would use my ocarina. I think it'd be fun to do something like that. Probably a pain, but it'd probably give the dog's brain a good workout! What do you guys think?

i don't know what an ocarina is but the idea sounds good.
i think you can teach a command to a corresponding note.
if you're usuing a wind instrument that might be a double
challenge.

It's a wind instrument. Probably one of the easiest to play, too. It's a 10 hole, and you can pretty much do whatever and it'll sound good. Plus mine's a lower pitch, so it won't hurt any sensitive dog ears.

Here's a picture of a standard ocarina. (They're also known as sweet potatoes).

Here's the one I have.

I don't know if it'll work but I hope you keep us updated! It sounds like an interesting idea, I'd love to hear how it turns out, no pun intended. Actually scratch that, pun intended.

It might be a while before I get to try it out - I have to get a shepherd first. ::

I click my toungue when I want Stark to sits, he does this.

I am in the process of teaching him that two clicks means platz.

There are a bunch of things you can do!

Sounds good to me!!!

Anything that can get these monsters thinking is a good idea!

Many Border Collies work to whistles. Each whistle blow is different and means something - like Come By, Away to Me, etc.

It would be the same as teaching them hand signals or the commands in a foreign language.

that's very, very funny. you don't
have a dog.

you know Border Collies do different things
when herding by the different pitch of a whistle
and they don't have to be in your view.
