Depends on how much carpet you have to vacuum in one sitting. I typically fill up my canister about 1/2 - 3/4 of the way in one vacuum session because I have 2 dogs and a cat. That's with the Purple Animal Dyson.

There's nothing wrong with the smaller capacity if it saves you a few bucks. Just going to require more emptying if you have a bigger area to vacuum.

Good luck and you WON'T be disappointed with a Dyson.
