Newly Adopted Boy with Extreme Destructive Bhavior
Hello All! Good to be back on the Site! I have been away a long time and much has happened in that span! I recently adopted an 20 month old GSD about a month ago. (Whom I believe to be the most handsome boy alive :) ). We have learned all Commands in German and now have started learning Russian and are completely house trained. He is a great boy and gets along amazing with my older gal, however there is just one small problem....Extreme Destructive behavior. When I am gone it never Fails. Mr. Cash seeks out anything he can find to destroy. Paper sacks, plastic sacks, books, 300 packs of notecards, Judo Gi's, he even goes as far as to open my backpack and distribute the contents throughout. And it isn't just when I am gone. Yesterday a brought home a bag of crickets for my tarantula collection. I sat it on the dining table and went to the bedroom to take of my nasty gym clothes. It took me maybe 5 minutes. As I re-entered the room I was welcomed by a shredded plastic bag and crickets every where.

I have tried Kongs, Antlers, and any other toys to keep him busy. I have also tried a "Thunder Jacket" or compression jacket (which helped my girl through a rough time). I'm just kind of lost as to where to go from here. I completely "Cash Proofed" my home. Yet no matter how clean I keep it he always finds something to tear up!

My next step is to crate him, but I hate to do that since he has spent all his life in one. Any Suggestions? Or should I just prepare for a life of Destruction? :help:

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Alles Gut!

Tether or leash him until he can be trusted.

I feel your pain, my golden is like this. I do crate him for his safety and my sanity. The crickets everywhere had to be a mess but really made me smile:)

Treat him as a pup and start from fresh. Might sound mean but might save you a lot of stress and angst!
