Do dogs generally chase shadows a lot?

My dog sure like shadows, sometimes her ears will even get her attention, there are times where I am across my house and she is right next to me pouncing on my moving shadow, sometimes she even bumps into me and it's kind of annoying. It's not all the times but it does take up a decent chunk of her time.

Has anyone played with lazer with her?

Yup.

Stop doing that immediately, and redirect if he chases shadows.

There needs to be wider education about the dangers of lazer play - it more often than not result in OCD light and shadow chasing. GSDs seem more prone to the OCD behaviour than some other breeds. Your dog doesn't seem to be too far gone, and if you stop now, and redirect her attention everytime she fixates on moving lights or shadows, she may forget all about shadow chasing.

Do a google search or a search on this board for light / shadow chasing, lazers, etc - lots of info there.

I'd start by greatly upping her exercise and letting her chase thing she actually can catch - let her catch the ball, rag, tug and let her posssess it - the catching and possessing are important instinctive sequences in a dog's prey drive.

How old is she? Her age will need to be taken into consideration as to how intensively you can exercise her.

She is 15 months old, I got her almost exactly a year ago, yes I need to get her more toys she has destroyed everything but the kong, even a rubber tire dog toy lol. I just threw the laser pointer in the garbage, never again smh I feel so terrible I didn't even realize how much it would obviously bother her not catching the light.

You can read my thread to get some great replies as well. The last thing you want is this behavior to lead to seizures and then you might have to put her down. If that's not enough to scare the bejeezus out of you, I dunno, but it sure did for me!

I should have stopped it over a month ago after she actually realized it was me, it was kind of spooky I know it sounds dumb. I was using the laser pointer and she chased it a couple of times but all of a sudden she stopped and stared right at the laser point and hen in my eyes. I felt really stupid lol and shocked that she realized what was going on, after that she would only ever chase it maybe once and then just stop and stare at the actual pointer.
