She stopped running: walky doggie

Zeeva has been walky doggying with me for a few days. We took a break for a couple days and tried again today.

She refuses to run. In fact she starts walking backwards and nearly slipped her harness today.

I know she knows how to run along side the bike in her harness attached to the walky doggie. We used to run 4-6 miles in Chicago. In Chicago she didn't exactly enjoy walky doggying but she had the stamina and did it regardless. The last time I took her (maybe 2 days ago) she did about 1/4 of a mile then turned home and wouldn't move unless we went toward that direction. The time before that she did about 1/2 mile and turned home; same thing.

How can I build her stamina if she will not run along side the bike any more?

I took her off the walky doggy and I ran with her just fine. But I'm thinking I need to put her in a harness and run with her; then re-train her to run along side of a bike. UGH! I just don't want to do that :c I want her to quickly and naturally have her run in her walky doggy the way we used to run in Chicago.

Smokey, my husky, still runs without any hassle.

I went through a stretch with Zoey like this. I thought injury at first, but she checked out fine. I stopped using the harness and switched to a flat collar, that helped but occasionally she would still stop. I would disconnect her and just walk for a bit, then hook her back up and go again. She got over what ever the issue was and is fine now, she runs like a maniac most of the time, glad I have hydraulic disks. Zeeva may pull out of a flat collar, but maybe check the fit of her harness and see if its irritating her.

The only time my shepherd did this was when I was using a black harness that I thought was better for her. After couple days later I found out why she wasn't too thrilled with the bike rides suddenly - the harness was rubbing her arm pits raw. I stopped using that harness and she's happy to bike with me again. Do you think the harness need to be refitted if it's not been used for a while?

Perfect. The harness was snugger than before. I pulled it out of the cat room and it had cat pee on it so I bleached it and hosed it down. It's likely itchy. Can't believe I didn't realize all this...

Thank you! Time to get a new harness and pray it works c:

It is so girlie! =) Maybe I should get one for my female shepherd to make her more friendly looking.

Did it work out for the bike ride?

We haven't tried it yet. It's too warm out right now but in the evening we will try. I just wanted to see the fit before we attempt to use it with the walky doggy. I don't like the fact that the 'snap' doesn't have a safety to put a carabiner on it. They only had one option at the Petco I went to :C

She just looked so perdy in it though...it is girly! LOL.
