pooop eaaaatiiiinnggg

i know there are tons of posts on this, but i just need a few suggestions. my 7 month old male will not eat poop when someone is outside with him. only when he is unsupervised in the yard. i want to let him go out and be a dog and run around in the yard by himself but it drives me up the wall when he does this. he has toys and balls in the yard to play with. when he poops and im standing at the door he wont even acknowledge his poop and will come straight to door to get a treat. but as soon as hes alone thats all he wants to do? any ideas that i can try on my behalf? the food deterants dont work. he eats first mate austrailian lamb. and gets good quality treats.

I have a nearly 6 year old who goes outside every night looking for snacks. You have to pick it up immediately

It has to be picked up asap. For a while my GSD was following the other dogs around catching it before it could hit the ground. So gross! He is much better now, but we have been correcting this behavior for months now and occasionally he will still sneak a snack.

LOL I feel like a sentry on guard for whoever is doing their business! And nearly all the dogs that feast on poo are claimed to have "sensitive stomachs". I wonder why?! :p

If he's finding it under the snow, you haven't picked it up. I'm not unsympathetic - I was planning on tracking the pup this morning. But she ate two helpings of crap... and the last car trip which was only into town she vomited after a similar snack. So she didn't get to go tracking this morning. Because I wasn't on top of the two of them enough to get rid of temptation before she was tempted.

Not necessarily true, we have had multiple snow storms this winter, one on top of the other and sometimes you miss a pile here and there or it's snows rather quickly before you can pick it up. We have shoveled out places for our dogs to go and they will still venture out to the far ends of our property to go.

My GSD will only snack on frozen poopsicles....still totally
disgusting.

I have had my GSD since he was a pup; and he was also a poop eater.
My vet said they do this sometimes if they are bored or are attracted to something they can smell in the poop. But, my dog grew out of it and large size Milk Bones seemed to help steer him away from the poop snacks. I'd ask him if
he wanted a bone if he started sniffing around looking for dog logs....you might try that and add a little bit of training in with that.

I used to catch him on the spot and remove the dog logs from his mouth when he picked them up, but he still would eat them when I wasn't around up until around a year and a half old.
