Default Whining while playing tug

My puppy started whining today while playing tug. I just got a new tug of what I think is appropriate size and while playing he has started to whine. He is 6 months old and all the teeth seem to be in. Only been playing tug with him for about 2 weeks and has not whined before when we were using a bite rag and a tug that was far to large. He is still playing hard with full grip and a lot of pull. Wondering if anyone has experienced this before.

Do you think it's from pain? Hugo whines like crazy with certain toys, you'd think someone was killing him if you just heard it. He just does it, don't know why. I've heard a lot that GSDs are just vocal.

Likely frustration that he isnt winning quick enough. I wouldnt worry unless the volume and intensity increases.

It could be frustration. It was a new tug and I did not give him any time to check it out on his own. Thanks.
