My couch - new dog (moved to General Behavior)

So my 1 1/2 yr old German Shepherd (Gunner) decided he wanted to chew up the couch. We recently rescued him from the shelter a week and a half ago. This is the first time he has torn anything up. He has been a great dog so far with me and my family. Needs some tips on how to prevent this from happening again. Thanks! Crate him when you can't supervise him. Look up the two-week shutdown on this site- it's a great resource for recent rescues and teaching them the lay of the land. Start working on obedience, which will also build your bond.

Wow! Look at that handsome face and strong head. He's gonna fill out to be a real looker.

Second the 2-week shutdown and training, training, training. If he's had free run of the house and he's comfortable (or uneasy) enough to claim the couch after only a week and a half, you'll want to get on top of his OB stat, or you won't have any house or sanity left in a few more weeks

Rescues have all kinds of different needs, but in common, they need time to settle in on Your terms.
