Baron goes for the collar.

My 10 month male GSD plays rough. Sometimes I think too much. Lately, I have seen him go for the other dog's collar. Is this normal?

Thanks

Carl

He's probably going for the neck scruff, not so much the collar. I would be very careful...dogs have been known to get their jaw stuck under another dogs collar, twisting, panicking and the dog that has the collar on gets strangled.
If you allow your dog to play with others, the shouldn't be wearing collars and the dogs should have some sort of relationship. GSD's aren't usually 'dogpark' types and the style of play is quite rough.

Onyx, thanks for the reply. I used to take him to the dog park periodically, but not anymore. Today he was playing around with another GSD that is in our neighborhood and he was constantly going for the collar. The other owner didn't seem upset, but I was getting kinda worried. I worked hard to socialize him and everything, and now he starts this.

That's just how they play. If you click my name you can see two threads that I have posted that show my dogs playing. I need to post a third as I think it will showa great evolution of their relationship

I've had dogs that go for the collar and pull them off. Bananas too. Keep a close watch though like onyx says.

GSD's aren't always good at playing with other dogs they don't know well. I'd be careful in allowing it. Unless your dog and the other GSD are good friends, there may be some snarky behavior and escalate into a fight. If they are same sex, then it is even more dicey.
Even my own dogs are managed when they play, and they are always naked.
