Sudden fear at the vets
We have an almost 1 year old gsd, we gave had him since 7 weeks old, we joined a puppy plan at our local vet so he hoes every month for his flea and worming treatment and to be weighed, just generally checked over. He obviously had his injections there and also his micro chip.
Up until the last few months he had loved going to the vet, the staff even would comment on how much he enjoyed his visits but then suddenly he developed a fear, it has been some time since his injections and chip so can't relate it to this. I have to drag him into the waiting room and literally slide him across the floor into the consulting room. He is usually a very sociable dog with people and other dogs.
We have tried the staff giving him his favourite treats and ignoring him to see if he approaches them but with no success.
At the minute it's not a problem as he doesn't need any treatment but he will shortly be due his boosters and can't see how the vet will get anywhere near him. He is not aggressive at all but cowers in the corner, hides behind me, under the chair (for which he is far too large) and jumps up at the door to be out absolutely terrified bless him.
Any suggestions to help him be more at ease in the vet?
