We have a 9 week old puppy and every time my husband leaves the room or even goes out of her line of sight she freaks out. If he steps on the other side of the baby gate to get ready for work she will start crying and whining and I'm sure our neighbors think we're killing our dog. She only does it with him, and we've tried the whole crate thing while he's getting ready to leave. If he leaves for even a second or goes into the kitchen without her noticing the same thing will happen. We got her when she was only 6 weeks old, and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to stop this or if it's just a German Shepherd thing.

Maybe, yawning which is a calming signal and redirecting her attention with a toy or a treat will help. Also if other members of the family were to play with her, take her for walks, and even short training - like have her sit - give her a treat, so that she gets attention from other members of the family without your husband present.
