Older dogs don't like my puppy!!!

Is this normal? Nietzsche has been exposed to several older dogs...
She is a very outgoing, bouncy puppy...now 12 weeks old. She was introduced to an older GSD, who snarled at her and shied away from her...literally going behind owner to hide! A second dog (mixed shepherd) that literally had all the fur on his back stand up and growled...bared his teeth...and a third...same thing. What is up with these other dogs? They are in a multiple dog household...as is Nietzsche. She plays here with my terrier mix...they LOVE to play. Has anyone else experienced this with a pup? She is only 12 weeks old, hardly a threat?

Is it because she is-considering her age, confident? Outgoing? Wanting to play?

Just because they are in multiple dog households doesn't mean they are good with ALL dogs necessarily. How do they act with other dogs that are outside of their house? I'm just saying it could be them and not your baby.

A little lengthy but a must read. On the other side of what the above poster said, just because your dog plays well with the other ones in the home does not mean that it has learned appropriate greetings and interactions with strange dogs. Your puppy is also approaching the age where they lose their puppy license and adult dogs will demand more self control and respect.

The other dogs are likely not afraid of your dog but instead do not like the way she is saying hello.

He needs to see dogs without reacting, not interact with them.

Dogs are not like people. They are not politically correct, there is a hierarchy, and those who do not respect it will get seriously corrected.

Many adult dogs do not like puppies. Like human kids, they are perceived to be annoying and obnoxious by grumpy adults, only humans will be quiet while dogs will make it known

OTOH, all of the adult GSD's that we have over the last 40 years have all liked puppies (esp. the younger ones) and I am of the opinion that most nomal adult dogs will at least tolerate young puppies. ("The Puppy Exemption")

Not all do, of course, and the owner of a young puppy (like a small child) has to be very cautious around older dogs.

If the adult dogs are socially normal, they are your best helpers in teaching this little brat (old dog's opinions) some manners. At 12 weeks they lose all their puppy privileges, they had before and have to live by the new rules. Adult dogs don't put up with the land shark stage, thinking, "Oh well he is just in that stage...."
WD was way too exuberant in his "greetings" at that age and often encountered these responses from the elders. He is fine now.

my dog is good with pups but i have seen it also some adult dogs just dont like pups thats why it is not a good idea to just let your pup meet any dog.

ALso if a dog is not feeling well they might be nasty to even a pup. Once my dog just had a shots and had an insane temper could have been sore or just not feeling well. Made it very clear nothing was allowed near her.

My dogs are all over 10, they were not happy about our new puppy. Which is totally understandble. Mine growl and snarl to tell the pup to leave them alone. He has a young friend to play with. Maybe the other dogs are just letting him know not to jump or nip etc.?

Thanks for all of your responses. I did have her on her leash...so she wasn't allowed to just go for it and jump all over any of the other dogs...I could understand it if she was running loose..but this was at the mere SIGHT of her! I just thought it was really odd behavior! She was excited and did whimper, and yip..but wow, I guess some dogs are just plan grumpy; or I expect them to act the way my old GSD did... Oldest dog was about 6, the youngest was about 3.
