Default Kennel all day question

We just adopted a two year old female who is used to spending all day in her large wire kennel when they were working. We don't like to use kennels but she wants to sleep in it at night. Well, today was the first day I worked with her here and I decided to leave her out since our doxie doesn't stay in one. When I got home the house was in relatively good shape except that she got a hold of my two favorite Texas Rangers ball caps and a couple stuffed animals. It looks like she may have ingested at least one stuffed small paw and maybe a small piece of plastic from the cap. She did puke when I took her out and has beefine since. I don't want to cage her during the day but should I do it and gradually wean her out of it? Other than those few items, she seems do have done well. Our last GSD was crated only as a pup for house breaking and did very well after that.

Thanks,

Chris

Too much of a good thing, too soon I think. Somehow they know how to pick your favorite whatever out. Have you considered using a baby gate and baby gating her into a small dog-proof room, the bedroom or a utility room, and see how she does.

I can leave Babs full run of the house, but I usually leave her with the bathroom, bedroom and hallway. That way she can't make stupid faces at Jenna where she is behind the baby gate between the living room and sun room.

When I am training a youngster, I bring them up into the bedroom where I sleep. And then gate the door so that if they decide to eat my whole house they will have to stop at the bedroom and bath. Hopefully, I will hear some of the destruction and will be able to mumble a reprimand while I turn over. I think Milla got three separate left slippers and moved up to hangers before I finally decided that she was house-trained.
