Okay so Zeus' parents had a litter of 8 puppies in December and my sister has decided she wants one of the pups. They're now 9 weeks old and so adorable. I have a few concerns though. For one, my sister wants to get a female but I'm afraid how Zeus will react to her. I don't know want him to be aggressive towards the new puppy. Another concern I have is do male and female Shepherds get along well? I really want Zeus to have a playmate out in the yard and think it will be good for him. I know for a fact that this new puppy will get fixed before she comes into her first heat but I don't plan on fixing Zeus until he is two years old. Will he still try to mount her if she is fixed?

You have a much better chance of a male accepting a female. A new puppy should never be left unattended. If your sister gets a puppy, then it is both of your responsibility to ensure he does not hurt the puppy.
Has he shown aggression towards other dogs before? Mounting can also be a form of dominance. If she is spayed, then it won't matter if he tries unless she objects and cleans his clock for it.

He might. Keefer was CONSTANTLY humping Halo when she was in heat, and he'd been neutered for a couple of years by then, and now that they're both speutered they hump each other in play.
Usually, a male/female combo works best if you're going to have two dogs. Two males would be better than two females, but I've always gone with one of each and they've gotten along great. |

That is your job and your sister's job to make sure the puppy is not annoying him and to make sure the puppy is supervised so he can't get hurt.

Well the puppy and Zeus are getting along great so far. Only problem is Zeus just won't leave her alone so she's been getting pretty feisty. Tomorrow I plan on posting some pictures. My sister decided to name her Althea but I've been calling her Ally.
