Question Female GSD very dog aggressive

Hi, everyone my name is Matt. I just joined the site today. I have a 3 year old GSD. I purchased her from a well known breeder who breeds for schutzhund and police. She is a very high drive dog. I started all the schutzhund training and it was going great. My wife left the kids and I and I slacked off and haven't done it with her in two years. Just obedience in the past two years. Problem I am having is she is and always was very aggressive to other dogs and all animals, she just wants to race right in for the attack. She was like this already at 4 mos old. I want to get her back into schutzhund but it is very difficult when all she wants to do is get at all the other dogs. Does anyone have any idea's how I can tame this down some? She listens great when other dogs and animals are not around. She was also protective already and down to business and had a serious side to her at 9 weeks old.

Call the trainer for the Schutzhund club and talk to them. It's not about making her not aggressive to other dogs. She will probably always be dog aggressive, though it seems odd to me that a 4 month old would be so is it maybe fear related? It's so hard to say when we haven't met the dog. So call the trainer and discuss with him. There are many working dogs out there that do not want to tolerate other dogs. They are trained to ignore them.

Welcome Matt!

The first thing would be to get back to training and working on control....a dominant dog aggressive dog is a dog which needs training and upkeep on the training...and vigilance on the part of the owner....going back to club, and getting help on control with this is your best bet....a dominant aggressive dog can be trained to ignore other dogs while working....it takes alot to transfer that focus away from strange dogs in day to day life...and mostly it will be management.

One of the biggest problems is that you really can't get another dog - unless she is same sex aggressive only...but right now, you need to start at the beginning and get her back to work!

Good luck!

Lee

Thanks guys. Its not a fear thing but seems to be a hate thing with her. I will definately be trying to start over with her. I have an alskan malamute male which is the only dog she will tolerate and play with. She plays really rough but he just lets her do it. She does race at him barking alot if he comes into the same room that we are all watching tv or if she is laying in my bedroom. Its like she gets jealous and over protective. She is an amazing dog in her abilities and she will attempt anything. So I want to put as much time as i can with her and her training to see if i can do what you said and teach her to ignore the other dogs while she is working. Thanks again.
