Default Swimming/being around water..

Do most GSDs like water? Swimming in it or playing in it? I can't get Remy ANYWHERE near it, even over the summer when I slowly brought her into the pool in my arms, she clawed out of them trying to get back out!

Any suggestions?

Koda loves water. Try walking her through shallows and treating/praising a lot. Slowly, as she gets comfortable, take her deeper and repeat.

Koda has always loved to swim. Some shepherds do. Others will never love the water. So if it doesn't work, oh well lol.

We only had a kiddie pool, clipper loved jumping in, biting the water, etc., Cody hated it! We'd try and lead him into it and he'd jump over it to avoid getting in! Didn't care for baths that much either!

Oh, she hates baths!

Over the summer, I went to visit family and brought Rem with me, my cousin has a Chesapeake bay retriever and they had a kiddie pool and tried to get Remy in there after Drake jumped in, but she wanted nothing to do with it! Well, until Drake started splashing big waves out the side and she ran around... Then DUG into the mud like I've never seen before lol

My boy loves water. He started off not being over-joyed about it, but I just gave him his room, played around in the shallows with the kiddos, and eventually he started wading in because he wanted to be with us. Then we found a doggy beach where they would all dart across the banks and splash together.

I will try that! Man, I wish there was a dog beach around here somewhere! She usually follows the crowd in what they're doing lol

Since she really likes playing fetch.

I had one who was really scared with water - I started off playing fetch near the water then just tossing it in just enough he had to put his feet in. Then further and further...........Find a place with calm water and a gently sloping shoreline. You may loose a few balls but if you gradually increase it the desire for the ball will overcome the fear. Just have patience.

All my other ones have absolutely LOVED the water.
